Dave's Travels
Hi Everyone
I've finally arrived in Melbourne after a tiring few weeks driving. We handed Mick Jagger in at Sydney last Monday and flew to Melbourne as it was a lot quicker and just as cheap as getting the bus the 900 kms to Australia's second largest city.
Along our travels we went to Brisbane, which was really nice, although not as big as I had imagined. After Brisbane we visited Town of 1770, where Queensland was "found", and Byron Bay. Then we moved onto the Gold Coast and Surfer's Paradise, which was a lot like Gt. Yarmouth - s***. For some reason we spent a couple of days there and then drove to Newcastle, just north of Sydney. In between we had visited the Big Banana and the Big Sheep. We spent four days in Sydney, went to a play at the Opera House and went all around it's suburbs in the van. Manly was really nice, as was Kings Cross where all the students live and everything is a lot cheaper! Bondi beach was a little dissapointing, although when we went there it was blowing a gale.
After being in Sydney we drove West to the Blue Mountains, which were really cold and pretty boring. I think it's more of a place for old people and the Japanese. Not much to it other than a couple of nice views. We then set off to Canberra stopping over night in a place called Goulburn, middle of nowhere. After setting off the next day Mick Jagger started playing up and broke down, leaving us waiting six hours in a town called Collector, how apt, for a lift back to Goulburn. We then had to endure a day of viewing Gouldburn's "attractions" before being able to leave with the garage still unsure as to what exactly was wrong with Mick. We decided to go to Canberra anyway and it turned out to be really nice. The Parliament buildings are actually really spectacular and free to look around. We then drove back to Syndey to hand Mick in and get the plane to Melbourne.
In Melbourne we've been to the Gaol, the MCG and tonight we're off to see a game of Aussie Rules!! We also visited Ramsey Street and went to the studio where they film. It was a pretty surreal experience, standing in the street without all the characters there. We did see Harold for a bit which was nice.
So tomorrow we are leaving Australia for NZ, to go Snow Boarding for a week in Queenstown at the very tip of the South Island, should be really really cold!
Take Care
Dave
