Hi again! where were we...
Right Singapore immigration, we were asked to leave the train on the border at 5am to be greeted by sniffer dogs and machine guns, it was lucky we didnt have and drugs on us (ha ha) as apparently you are shot on sight if found in posession! But it turned out they loved us as we were British and we flew through. We arrived in central Singapore right slap bang in rush hour so we didnt really fit into the commuter crowd whilst struggling with our backpacks!
We stayed at the POW (not prisoner of war but Prince of Wales) hostel in a luxuriously sweaty dorm room to Helen's hatred! Singapore itself was our favorite of all the Asian cities we have been too and definaltely the cleanest (chewing gum is even illegal here!). We started our tour on an open top bus... pity about the rain hey! So armed with an umbrella we went on a heritage and cuty tour taking us from colonial sights to modern skyscraper ridden Singapore! Dave lowered the tone as per usual as he fell over on a packed out open top bus, he looked just like Bambi, much to Helen's amusement! On the tour we were shown round the Singapore F1 circuit and even managed to stop off at the pit lane and see the grandstands!
Obviously we made the compulsary stop off at Raffles hotel for a Singapore sling... the most expensive drinks we will ever buy! The place however was gorgeous, if only we could afford to stay there!
One evening we went to Sentosa island, the holiday resort for the people of Singapore complete with beach and theme park! We saw a laser and firework display which we didnt know when we booked but was designed for kids but impressive all the same. We then made our way to an area called Clarke Quay the Soho of Singapore. Unfortunately we couldnt afford a drink here (2 drinks will set you back 80pounds!) so we settled for ice cream and watched the river boats go by.
The next morning we took a river boat cruise for a different view of the city and the sun finally came out! We then went for afternoon tea at Raffles, a superb find which didnt set us back as much as you would imagine! Probably the best cake we will ever have.
That evening we took a flight to Brisbane! Speak soon
Helen and Dave xx
p.s. we would like to give our first congratulations to Andrew and Laura who got engaged yesterday in New York we are so happy for you both, we may have had a few celebratory drinks for you.
