I took the night bus from Niagara Falls to New York City, an 8 hour journey! Worked at well, with Finances being as dire as they are, a night out of the hostel was a plus. Arrived in New York City at 6am, just as light was breaking over the city! I love this skyline; there is only one in the rest of the world I have seen that captivates me as much, which would be Hong Kong. This will be my 6th time to New York and I promised myself I wouldn’t return, until I was with someone, and able to experience the couply side of New York. But alas here I was! Honestly I wasn’t bothered with the city anymore, there is very little I haven’t done in New York. Think I was just feeling a bit nervous about getting home actually. I was staying in The HI International 103rd and Amsterdam, the best hostel in New York by a mile! I checked in early and passed out the minute my head hit the bed. It was around 2pm when I surfaced, and decided to walk the length of Central Park, one of my favourite things to do in the City, it has always been stunning. From the first time I had found it with Jeff, on my third visit, I had loved that walk. So calming, and it really is huge. On my last visit Paul, Dom, Danny and I had found a castle in the middle of it, something I had never seen before, so new things could happen in New York.
The City had also just come out of a huge cold snap, with mountains of snow building up that had shut the airports for days. I had never seen the park so white, the lakes all frozen over, it does make a difference. I loved that walk that day, it was beautiful, the park being very quiet this time of year, and it was gorgeous. So what was next? Well screw it lets walk the whole thing? I had never done that before and always wanted to. So it was past Times Square, something by the way which is the most highly overrated place in New York, except for the Giant Toys R Us and the Naked Cowboy obviously. Down to Madison Square Garden, and the Empire State Building. Here I bumped into an old friend, he was begging on the street, so I took him for a feed at TGI’s, yes my illusive Stitch who had travelled the globe with me, but left me in Sydney after finding a Teddy Bear he fell madly in love with. This Teddy Bear had not only broken his heart but he had hit a depression only Alien Teddies can reach, the last couple of months he had walked the streets of New York dazed and confused, drinking his way through his finances, and his dignity. Waking one night on the doorstep of Coyote Ugly he found that his wallet and interstellar passport had been stolen, he was trapped! His did apologise for his behaviour, so I have taken pity on him, I know how it is these youngsters and their love!
So we walked the rest of the city that night, reunited at last! It was down through Washington Square, and Union Square. This city really is full of memories for me, and everywhere I turned it reminded me of a previous time! I made it down to the Brooklyn Bridge after a 4 hour walk! This is my favourite place in New York, especially at dusk. Walk the Bridge and watch the city light up, as the light dwindles.
It has the best views of the whole city, uptown and downtown. A must! By this time I was absolutely exhausted, so headed back to the hostel for a quiet night.
