My Trip
So I am now at the end of my Hong Kong experience and it's been pretty cool.
Hong Kong has everything an intrepid explorer could want.... And it's not that expensive really. The jump from China to here is a leap of faith really...instead of paying 7 RMB for a large beer you pay 45 HKD - I like to measure in alcoholic units these days....
So I decided to crawl out of my apartment and onto a train to see the "Big Budda" as its known...enroute I meet a couple of English girls from St Albuns...its a small world hey! Davina and Eloise, really cool down to earth girls that have been travelling for 6 months already. So I stuck with them for the day, both have just finished studying and decided to go away for a while.
The Big Budda is located miles out of Hong Kong and the cable car is not finished yet. So we had to catch a bus which took near on an hour...with some spectacular views. The Budda is a sight...staring down in the middle of no where from its platform high up in the hills.
From there it was back to Hong Kong Island for some dinner with the girls and a couple of beers. I kind of felt like a tour guide, since they had only just flown in. So I showed them the light show and we did the Walk of the Stars... Kind of like the Hollywood stars but with Asian actors (think I knew 3) The walk is nice though, with the Island in the distance. This is from Kowloon, the mainland of Hong Kong... The light show is Every day at 8 the Hong Kong buildings all light up in different ways to normal, with lazars across the river and flashing lights...its cool. Must take so much power though. Anyhow we had a couple of drinks and all were so knackered from the Budda.
The Apartment has a 7 11 shop just across the way so I headed there for some noodles.... Money saving and all!
The previous morning I had gone to the raising of the National flag which was well crappy to say the least, nothing like Beijing - no cannons so I was very upset. However its all about the experience right? I have taken the cable car up to the Peak...unfortunately I am not having the best of luck every time I go up there its cloudy...but the pictures came out ok...looks spooky with the cloud cover. The walk around the Peak was a good one too, takes about 45 minutes but well worth it since its the only thing in Hong Kong that is free. Spent a couple of days in the Parks...there is one right next door to the apartment, which is great to walk in. It has cobbled stones that act as a foot massage, and well is tranquil enough to read my book - which I have finished by the way! It's a really good book called Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.... As for shopping, I have kept my distance knowing I can find things cheaper in Bangkok or Vietnam....
Met up with the girls again and we went for dinner...there's a new set of people in the apartment now as well ... some nice English girls from Leeds and a guy called Chris who is really chilled out he loved Australia and kept telling me.
So we ended up in the Red Light district with Hookers working just outside the Irish Bar we were in - That ones for you Pasty...Since I miss the Irish! And it started pouring down. I had never seen such rain...a Monsoon. It was fantastic...especially because we went for a run in it...Great experience I was drenched when we got to the next Club...Dusk til Dawn...Good fun in there. Chinese band playing Western Music...classic. Met an Aussie in there who I am staying with on Bondi Beach, and we drunk to the small hours...well until I had to get Eloise into a cab after being sick everywhere...some girls and there Mexican Spirits...I myself had a lovely hangover in the morning. Have also had my last Chinese for a while with the English girls who were at the apartment. They have just started too, really nice girls we went to Soho and had a farewell meal. Am now enroute to Bangkok... Wish me luck!
Ooh I nearly forgot...I climbed the world longest Escalator (don't know if that's how you spell it)...Its huge and goes on for miles...So cool
All in all Hong Kong is not expensive if you are holidaying. And I do recommend it...The beach called Repulse Bay is gorgeous...the Markets are lovely and fun. The Skyline beats New York. All in all if I had more money to spend it would have been better...but there we go.
