My Trip
So we made it....After 14-Hour hard sleeper to from Gulin, and another train to Hong-Kong we are here.
Hong Kong is a sprawling metropolis of business and shops. The Skyline is by far the most impressive I have ever seen. I am on my own now, as Paul and most of the group left 2 days ago, and Vimo, Amal, Clare, Matt and the Yanks left Yesterday.
It's been a good day though. I have seen the light show, which consists of most the buildings on Hong Kong Island lighting up at different times or lazar coming out over the bay. I have been to the Peak and walked around it. I have mastered the subway, been to Times Square (a huge shopping mall), been to the Park, seen the beaches on the quieter side of the Island, taken the Star Ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island and walked the length of the Island. So far I think I'm doing ok, and I still have another couple of days here.
Hong Kong is one big shopping Mall, even the executive towers have shopping plazas beneath them, and each subway station has at least 8 exits...
So apart from the vastness of this place, the other side of the Island has some spectacular beaches and views. I would have never have guessed it.
And it is very English.... Yes I know we built it and owned it for 99 years. But they still have the Queens head on some coins...3 types of notes for 20's and 10's...from the three different banks allowed to print money here.
The traffic lights are very similar, the cabs are red and white, and they drive on our side of the road...so cool. Feels a bit like home, but hotter, much hotter, which adds value....
It is a sub tropical climate and hell that feels right I am sitting here at 7.14pm wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt...nice. My tan is coming along nicely. The Hostel is like an apartment it has a lounge, kitchen and everything, I am sharing with two girls, one from Ireland, and one from Norway and across the hall are a nice American couple who I am heading out with tomorrow.
It's been a little weird without everyone; the Group was such a good one. Now I am alone once again...I am back in traveller mode. I had an emotional farewell to the Irish Consortium; they are such lovely girls who really have added some great memories to the trip for me.
And we saw everyone off in a family style until there was just me left...Hopefully hooking up with Clare and Matt in Australia. Anyhow really have said enough.... I'll probably do one more of these for Hong-Kong so stay tuned
