Round the world in, ummm.....163 days!
Hello all. Ready for your next exciting instalment?
Now arrived in NewZealand but will fill you in on what we were up to in last week or so in Australia....
We headed off on our Whitsundays cruise with our over-exagerating French Captain. Got pretty roungh on the sail to the island we were staying on. Met some people we met in 1770 on our boat. Starting to meet people everywhere over again now! First night on the island involved a few drinking games (might explain some of the more 'interesting' pics!). Then followed 2 days of early mornings & sailing to Whitehaven beach & few snorkeling sites on the reefs. Had to wear stinger suits whenever we were in the water as its still stinger season. Aparently they're bout the size of your thumbnail & can pretty much kill you! Getting a running theme in Aus now, watching out for things that can cause you serious harm!
Left Airlie Beach the next day & continued on our way up the east coast. Got off the Bus in a place called Townsville & took the ferry accross to Magnetic Island. Decided to do nothing for a few days & heard this place was pretty relaxed. Arrived at our hostel & while checking in we we're invited to a free 'bush-tucker breakfast' with koalas the next morning. They had a TV crew filming for an Aus travel show & needed people to make it look busy. Of course we were pleased to help out! (did turn out we had to join in with a limbo competition that night. which was also filmed!). Breakfast was great! Ate so much & got to hold koalas, snakes & a crocodile!! All with a film crew in tow (think my fee is in the post). Didnt do a massive amount on Magnetic island. Went for a walk or 2. Did find a Gallery which the artist used real dead toads in his paintings tho!
After a few days of not doing much was time to get going North again. Arrived in Cairns & hired ourselves a little granny car (well it was cheap!) & drove up to the rainforests at Cape Tribulation. Stopped at dew places on the way including a Rainforest walk with cool trees & a lagoon type thing (again I apologise for the pic!). Arrived at our hostel & it started tipping it down (who'd have thought it in a rainforest!). So much so we couldnt drive anywhere as the roads were too flooded for our little car! Went on a crocodile-spotting trip & drove back to Cairns for our diving on the Barrier Reef.
Diving was great. Better than Thailand, but day was grey so not the best light under the water. Saw & swam with a sea turtle though! Said goodbye to few people and headed off on the flight to NewZealand......
