Day 2
Left Horsham, did drive by past Anna and David Martin old home!
Coffee from the recommended "Fig tree', unfortunately was still not great coffee!
JD delighted to drive past Emmets, Dimboula Road, John Deere agency! No work today or for the next 90!
Drive by Pink Lake, Dimboula @ 100kms (no time to stop, so thank goodness for google) The pink colour of the water comes from a pigment secreted by microscopic algae. The intensity of the pink varies with the amount of water in the lake. When the lake is drier more light is reflected from the white crystallized salt reducing the impact of the pink. The salt was commercially harvested from the lake for many years. Pretty even from a distance!
Girls did their fair share of whinging!
To which JD replied...
"Boring! what's boring about this! This is fantastic! Engine room of Australia Between Horsham and Adelaide
Matilda made up a song in Bordertown "I do not enjoy driving round Australia!"
We stopped at the NSW/South Australia border and ate what we could of our newly stocked fruit and threw out the rest before quarantine!
We stopped and admired Australia's largest and arguably most complex mural by artist Guido van Helten on the silos at Coonalpyn in South Australia.
Even the girls showed some appreciation of the scale and skill!
On our descent into Adelaide down some very steep hills, through tunnels much to JD interest, I attempted to book us into a camper park.
I was a bit taken aback at the $79 charges and told the lady we intended to sleep in the van, we only needed power. Apparently going rate for school holidays!
Drove through Adelaide, we were all (no most) very impressed with the city. Beautiful houses. Checked into Adelaide beach side caravan park. To be informed that on Monday nothing's open! Parked Right near the pool just in time for a very much needed stiff gin!!!!! Let the kids swim unsupervised until dark, well we could at least see and hear the pool from the van. We all needed a bit of distance after our 420kms in the van. Cooked up some pasta and then kids resumed fighting, this time about what to watch on TV and not wanting to go to bed! Bad choice for all...as the pool was no longer an early morning option!!
