So we left Koh Tao as planned and caught the 3 pm ferry back over to Koh Phangan. Today being the 30th, so with a night to spare until the big party, being new year. We arrived and jumped straight in a taxi and headed straight back to our old Guess house. We had arranged with them before leaving to save a room for us as we will definitely be back on the 30th. Men of our word. We arrived in the pouring down rain, went to reception and to our horror they were fully booked. "I thought we had agreed to keep a room for us" "oh sorry fully booked now". Thanks. Nothing like a gentleman's agreement. It's all about money over here. Getting a room was going to be near impossible. There was 30000 people turning up for new years. We went searching for about 2 hours and there was nothing. Looks like the beach could be the only option. Serious traipsing around in the humid wet heat was horrible. Mark bumped in to some Swedish girls who he new and there friends had just moved out so luckily we could take there room. Real life savers. So there would be 4 lads sharing a small double bed. Real cosy. That night there was a pool party at the coco hut guest house. We had been to one previously before on the 23rd of december and had a good night. First we went down the beach for a few beers and then set off to the pool party. Steph and laura was still out there and at the same party and as mark had kind of messed up things before hand, by getting caught kissing another girl, it was going to be great to watch him trying to wing Steph back round. He did. Now if only we could persuade him to kiss another girl in front of her new years eve. That sort of stuff is worthy of legendary status. He had already messed her christmas day up by making her cry and now if only he could do the same new years. Us blokes don't have morals after all. Anyway we had a good night dancing away and getting smashed on buckets again. Enough was enough so i headed home after what had been a long day.
The big day had arrived. If only i had one less bucket last night as i wasn't feeling great. Me and neal headed down the beach to catch some last minute sun so we could look our best for tonight. We spent the day playing frisbee and messing around on the beach. In the evening i went out to buy some new T-shirts and got some real bargains. Shopping is so cheap over in asia it's unreal. Surprisingly Bangkok is the cheapest. It's not very often you find the capitals being the cheapest. I headed back got ready and then we started drinking in the room. I think we headed out about 9 ish for a bite to eat and then headed down to join the party. It was ridiculously busy here. You could barely move. Whilst down there i bumped in to more of my mates from Majorca and one of the dj's i knew from out there was playing, Dela. There was about five or six i knew so i stood chatting to them for a while before heading off to find the others. So the new year flew past us before we had even realized. I think it was 12 45 when we noticed. I was smashed and wobbling everywhere. Lucky it was so busy otherwise i would of probably ended up on my arse. Come 2 30 me and Neal headed back. I can't believe i wasted my night like that. I should of at least made it out until 9 am like last time. People dream of coming here for new years and there's me wasting it, what an idiot.
So the next day had come around. January the 1st, 2008 and here i am in Thailand. Of course i thought of what all my friends and family did for new year and could it compete with mine!! Mind you, most of you probably lasted longer than me. I wasted most of the day in bed nursing yet another hangover. Once it had passed i went to check out the state of the beach. It wasn't to bad to be honest. They do a really impressive clean up which takes about 2 days. Everywhere was like a ghost town though. At a guess most people were in bed except the hard core drinkers who continue drink all day and night and all day. That night and feeling fresh i was determined to make up for my early night last night. We were all sitting around on the beach when me and mark spotted some lads we knew from back home, Haywards Heath. We spent a couple of hours with them and then continued to dance and drink the night away. Me and nick fancied a change so we headed up mushroom mountain to see who we could find. "Ok mate, shall we do a mushroom shake?" Na. Sod tripping out on a beach full of drunkards. I heard a couple of stories about some guy's who had a bad trip on them. One dude spent the whole night searching the beach convinced he had lost a leg. Another guy was trying to make out with a tree thinking it's a chick. We just headed back down the way we came and went back to the beach party.
Today was time to make a move to Koh Samui so we checked out and boarded a ferry.
