So we caught a minibus to mount Bromo. It took a little over than 12 hours. A long antagonizing 12 hours that was.We occurred all kinds of problems on the way including huge traffic jams caused from severe floods. I think we was on for a record time until this happened. Our driver was driving like a man possessed but he got us there safely. He dropped us off at some booking office. From here they would take us un the mountain to our hotel. We were 2500 above sea level and it was absolutely freezing. So we arrived and dropped our stuff off in our room.Me, Mark, some dude called Tony but I was calling him Tom the whole time and a couple all went out to get something to eat. There was no where opened. As we was peering through a shop window some young lad asked what we wanted. We told him we wanted to eat somewhere and he got his people to open the shop and cook us food, result!! It was that cold I bought a woolly hat.Another result was that we had warm showers. First in a while.
So our tour started at 3 am. They woke us up and drove us to a near by mountain and off we went to start a climb. We got there about 4 30 and the climb was only about 30 minutes to the top.We climbed about 500 meters in the dark to our view point. From here we would watch an amazing sunrise overlooking a valley which was surrounded by volcanos. The view was amazing. So was the sunrise. You could see for miles. There were three volcanos we could see.The smallest was mount Bromo an active volcano which was puffing smoke. Soon we would be climbing it.Next to it was Bartek which is dormant and further south of the moon like landscape is Gunung Semeru the tallest at 3676 meters. The highest in java and the most active.Actually it's the 6th most dangerous in the world. So after admiring the views we went off in our land drover and went to the foot of Bromo. From the car park we rode horses to the stairs of the volcano.I haven't ridden a horse since I was about 5 and it was great fun.Once at the top of Bromo you could see down to the bottom. Well almost as the smoke was covering it.Looking at the landscape as I said earlier it was moon like. The land was full of rocks and craters. The views were unbelievable.Probably some of the best I have ever seen. After spending an hour or so up here and the time only being 8 am we headed back to the hotel for our breakfast and then got picked up to head to Bali at 10.First they dropped us off at the booking office to get the bus.We had to wait until 1 am to get it, much to our annoyance. We just chilled out with some locals playing football, getting more pictures done and chatted.
