So we woke to a bang at the door. We had over slept so the taxi driver was waking us. Not surprisingly though. We had to be up at 6 am for an 8 hour journey to the Gili islands. So after an hour in a minibus we arrive at a port. From here on we have to catch a huge ferry over to the Gili's. It's only 40 km away and they could do it a lot quicker but our trawler is the slowest in history. There was an option of a speed boat which takes 2 and a half hours but that was to expensive. We arrived at a place called Lombok. Another mini bus transfer to another port. We have to wait for a canoe to take us over to our little island. The people here are really annoying and are asking for your cloths and trying to get you to buy the rubbish there selling. Really, we could do with out this. So we got on a little canoe to the island. By the time we had arrived it had started raining. Our hotel what we wanted to stay in was a 2 minute walk down the road but we decided to catch a horse and cart. What a huge mistake this turned out to be.. The horse threw a fit. It started kicking out and one of it's back legs got caught in the back of the cart. So we have a 3 legged horse galloping down the road. Mark dives out. I had a delayed reaction, not sure what i was thinking. I jump out and bang my head and get a small cut in the process. The horse collapses to the floor. We thought it was dead but there was still plenty left in it. It staggers back to it's feet and gallops off again. The driver is running after it. Our bags are still in the cart. By the time it stops the cart is wrecked. We felt sorry for the owner and he was really apologetic. We decided to give him some money to buy a new cart.
So we check in to our Guesthouse which was called Big Bubble. It's a diving one so that's great for me. Straight to the desk for me to book some dives up. As the evening was drawing in we decided to get showered and head out for a bite to eat and check out a few bars. As for the bars there was little on offer so we stayed in the same one for the whole evening. Apparantely they only get busy on certain party nights as there out of season.
Today i have two dives to start. The first one started at 10 am and was at a place in the sea called sharks. Hence the word sharks as there was plenty of them around in the water with us, along with turtles and great general marine life. After a great first dive it was off back for some lunch. We had a two hour break in between dives so i decided i would quickly walk around the island. The island where we was staying was supposedly tiny. So after walking in the blistering heat with out any sun cream for 1 hour and 45 minutes i decided it was time to get running. I show up 15 minutes late dripping with sweat and a great red tan to go with it. So another great dive and then it was time to chill out for a while. That night we went back to the same bar as it had a party there. It was ok and a lot busier. We met up with two chicks who we had met in Singapore and also made some mates with some aussie's. Not a bad night.
Waking a little worse for where it was time for another day of diving. Our first one was at sharks point again and then our second was at manta point. Seeing manta's out here is fairly rear but luck was on our side. We spotted two huge ones on the surface of the sea and all dived in to pay them a visit. After an hour of watching these creatures show off doing circles in the water we clambered back aboard our boat and then got kitted up for our last dive. After returning to the shore and finding mark riding around on a push bike i decided to hire one to. We whizzed around the island and then i went in to the local's village. It's amazing to think what goes through these minds. They see tourists invading there island and don't even batter an eye lid. We have everything they can only dream off but they choose not to hassle us, keep there selves away from us and get on with there daily routine. Crime is non existent on this little paradise island, maybe because there are no police, but who knows. So our last night and we start it off by watching a movie. You can hire out a film and watch them in a hut overlooking the sea. After a movie it was time to hit another couple of bars and then head home.
Today we head back to kuta, Bali for 2 nights and then after that Australia.
