Well it's our second trip to Hayman Island. The magic hits you well before the warm greeting from the eager staff who await you at the jetty. Is it the 2 glasses of sparkling wine, the canopies or the magnificent vistas across the many islands on the Whitsundays? Amazing, but the piece de resistance has to be the mind blowing turquoise waters of the HI inlet. You'll never forget it!
Our first adventure to HI wowed us and we told everyone how wonderful it was (and is). The water, the views, trips to secluded beaches, snorkeling the clear seas and the good food made this a trip to remember! Well done HI.
A few years have passed since HI1 and our dream resort lures us again. Anticipation is high and we wondered how a few cyclones and extensive repairs have changed things.
Day one of trip number 2 to HI and all our loving memories of paradise are fading fast. Up at 4:30am to take the 2.5 hour flight; 11.30 am and we arrive at HI 2 welcomed again by sparkling wines and canopies. So what's the problem?
Arriving at reception, confusion reigns supreme for us and the greeting gardener assigned to give us the usual HI warm welcome. Why are we the only ones not given a room key????
OMG , our room is not ready!
However, we don't panic, we know this is a 5 star resort so we expect all will be okay.
Hmmm, our room won't be ready until 3 pm! We're banished to poolside while others on our launch are shown to their rooms and quickly jump into swimmers. "Enjoy the complimentary drink and have some lunch"; we're told. Good idea, but the service is atrocious! Half an hour wait to get drinks and another hour to get food.
Not to worry, our room will be ready soon; won't it? Whoops, no, "your room won't be ready until 5pm, sir". REALLY?
Yep. The previous occupiers of the room requested a late check out! And, it was granted?
How did they really expect us to respond?
Much to our consternation, there was little that represented a caring response from staff....... Further stern looks and our mood was being taken a little more seriously.
Things still not resolved at 3:45pm although we have a temporary room at the arseend of the resort. (Apologies for the crude comment but here is no other description to explain how far away it is.)
Is this really a five star resort? Not what we would expect, and paid handsomely for. Let's see how the next few days go.
We'll keep you posted!
