Hi all, hope your enjoying the snow back home :) haha! On the Saturday I headed out to start my tour of the great ocean road! We got the bus early in the morning and started the long 3 an half hour journey to the back end of the ocean road - we were doing it the opposite way to normal as it mean't we'd avoid all the other tourists!! The Journey didn't start to well as i got stuck to a Chinesse women who spoke no English at all an as i don't know how to say one word in Chinesse the conversation wasn't exactly flowing!!! After the first stop though she swapped seats to sit with her daughter so had a French girl to talk to - yeah i know she's French but atleast she spoke English! Our first stop off was at Tower Hill where we had a bit of a walk round to look for some of the wildlife! We saw Emu's and a few Koala's and i'm pretty sure i saw a kangaroo but i was too slow with the camera.
After that stop we headed to the Bay of Islands and Bay of Martrys which was followed by a couple of stop overs at the Grotto and London Bridge. The sites were really good and i've got a fair few photos which you can have a look at. We then headed to Loch Ard Gorge where we chilled out on the beach for about an hour before having to get up and head off again. We shot off to our accomadation for the night which was a pretty decent hostel and got the barbie on the go! The food was superb - burgers, hot dogs, steak, potatoes, pasta, salad - as you can probably tell i made the most of it as it was all you can eat :)
After we finished at the BBQ we headed over to see the sunset at the 12 Apostles which was pretty amazing, the photos don't really do it justice! While there we saw a few penguins come back to the shore for the night which was pretty cool but unfortunately we couldn't get any decent pictures as we were too far away! We then headed back to our accomadation an off to the pub for a few beers. Then a few of us got a few boxes of goon to take out. Goon is basically really cheap wine made with fish guts, peanuts, eggs, milk etc that all the backpackers drink, it's $10 dollars for a 4 litre box! Oz is really expensive for alcohol it's about $8 a pint on average or $30 for a cheap bottle of vodka from the off licence so you can see why backpackers drink the goon!!! After a few drinks we headed back to the hostel, had a few more drinks there - it would of been rude not to and then hit the sack!!
The next day after breakfast we headed back to the 12 Apostles so we could view them in the day. We then headed off to Gibsons Steps and Maits Rainforest where we had a walk round for about an hour before going to Apollo Bay. At Apollo Bay we just chilled out on the beach, before going in search of more Koala's! After finding hundreds of the things we then went to Bells beach where we stopped for a cuppa beofre heading over to the "round the twist" lighthouse - i'll be honest i'd never heard of the program before but i suppose some of you might have. After our quick visit there we headed off to the surf shops to have a quick look round before finishing the trip in St Kilda! It was a quality trip and i'm glad i did it over two days so we didn't have to rush round running from place to place! On the night back at the hostel i just stayed in the bar and had a few games of pool with my new room mates before heading to bed because i was absolutely shattered!
So thats about it for now! I've been to get my hair cut today - I was trying to grow it to save money for beer but it started to get on my nerves!!! I'm going to head to Albert Park today which is where the Australian Grand Prix is held so i'm off to have a quick look round there with one of the lads i met on the ocean road tour! After that I'm off to Sydney tonight so I guess my next blog will be from there! Speak to you all soon!!
