Hey all, i'm going to be on the move a fair bit now so just thought i'd update you on how things went at the surf camp while I had chance! I've added a few pics, theres not many as i need to download the one's of me actually surfing from there website, which i probably won't be able to do until I get back home because you can only download them once!!!
So the surfing started on Wednesday afternoon after a nice 6 hour drive to Crescent head! The drive wasn't to bad as we got to watch a few films, one was old school which i'd never seen before an it was quality definately recomend it!! Crescent Head was superb, we were the only people on this secluded beach an we were miles from anywhere! During the first lesson we started to get to grips with the basics such as surf safety how to get up on the board an catch a wave etc! I actually managed to stand up about 4 times in the first lesson so I was pretty chuffed - at one point i managed to catch 2 waves in a row so I thought i'd cracked it, but unfortunately it's a lot harder then it looks!!! On the night we had a quality BBQ so we all stuffed our faces - you could tell we'd all been living on pasta an noodles for the last few weeks!!! We then headed down to a place called the Humphy where we had a few drinks and chilled out!
On the second day we had two, two hours lessons which went really well, only problem was the tempermental weather! It went from blazing hot sunshine to pouring rain to blazing hot sunshine in about 2 hours! The timing of the rain was pretty good though as it was when we were surfing so you didn't really care! I started to really get the hang of it on the second lesson an was told to move on to one of the smaller boards!
After a day of surfing it was time for an early night - haha yeah as if that was going to happen, we didn't have a lesson in the morning as we had a coach drive to spot x so it was time to party down at the humphy an out come the good old drinking games! I started teaching them a few we'd pick up in Thailand which went down pretty well so as you can probably guess it turned in to a pretty messy night!
Hungover the next day we all jumped on the bus an headed to Spot X. This was completely different from Cresso as there were a lot more people about but while we were surfing we were still pretty much on our own! We had our lesson in the afternoon an i started on one of the smaller boards and managed to pick up really well! They got some quality photos from this session so when I download them i'll stick them up on the net somewhere so you can see my silky surfing skills haha! That night we had a quiet one as we had a lesson at 6 in the morning - i know how ridiculous is that!!!
So we woke up at 5:30 an it's dark an raining, great!! The lesson wasn't to great either as we had to keep moving because we kept getting caught in rips, but I managed to catch a few good waves! The second lesson was much better, in was bright an sunny an I was using the smallest board they had which was pretty cool. We also started to learn how to turn which is a pretty handy thing to know when your flying at someone full pelt!!! After the lessons we had a volley ball tournement which was a good laugh! Our team was shocking we were more interested in drinking the beers but some how we managed to make it to the final! There must of been something in that beer! On the night we had a massive party, which involved more drinking games an at one point we all ended up dancing on the table to head, shoulders, knees an toes - yeah these Scandinavians are pretty crazy but it was a proper good laugh, in the whole group that went on the trip there was only two English people of about 60 odd!
The next day with a slight hangover we had our last lesson at 8am! We got split up into different groups an I was put in the advance group where we learn't how to catch rips to help us out to the proper massive waves! Just getting out to the waves was pretty hard work but it was well worth it!! I managed to catch 3 pretty big waves so i was proper chuffed! After the third one i was completely out of energy an couldn't be bothered to paddle out again so i thought i'd quit while i was ahead!
The surf camp was quality, had such a laugh an surfing is pretty cool as well! Only pain is all the grazes and rashes you get. My hands arms an ankles are covered, I had to tape my hands up in gaffer tape after the second day! I'm in Byron bay now which is really cool it's so chilled out here! Last night we all went for something to eat an then just chilled out by the beach with all the hippies which was pretty sweet. I've got a couple more days left in Byron before I head to Surfers! I'm going to meet Danny Burke there on Thursday an he's going to give me the guided tour which should be good! So I guess for now thats it, I hope your all well and i'll catch up with you all soon!!!
