Blog Day 86, 87 Sun 31st July & Mon 1st August 2011
Day 1
After handing over the keys to the scooter, we find a nice little café for breakfast before we board the boat to Samui. We don't actually arrive at our hotel until late afternoon. We are staying in Chewang & when they say this place is touristy they mean this place is touristy! IT'S NUTS! I mean how many times can you seriously be asked if you want a taxi, tuk tuk, suit, look in their shop or eat in their restaurant, really!! We try to look for another night market for some cheap food but the only one we find is shut. In the end we settle on McDonalds purely because the staff aren't lurking on the street badgering us to come in. This is defiantly an area for a lads or girls holiday. And we feel that the 2 nights we have booked here is way too much!
Day 2
This morning we had the pleasure of having the cleaning lady wake us up at about half past 7. Not cleaning, I might add, but propping herself up on her little trolley and shrieking down the phone to some poor sod. Whoever was on the other end was really getting an earful and we wondered whether she had woken that person up as well? After about half an hour of this Dan decided that he'd had enough, and dressed in just a pair of boxers, he opened the door to our hotel room and in his best Thai accent shouted 'SHUT THE HELL UP!' It seemed to do the trick as she promptly b*****ed off.
The sun is refusing to shine today & were feeling like it's one of those days where all we want to do is sit in our room watching movies, writing our blog & catching up with friends & family. So naturally this is what we do! We have a real slob day even ordering room service. We feel really guilty travelling half way round the world just to sit in a room but we need rest days to you know, this travel lark isn't as easy as it seems! Dinner today is a culinary delight of Pot Noodle with a side order of M&Ms. J
Blog Day 88 Tues 2nd August 2011
We made the decision to move over to Lamai last night which is about 20mins away from the mayhem of Chewang. It's meant to be a quieter area & we defiantly want to take advantage of this. We check into our next hotel (Serene Hill Hotel), they're not kidding about the hill bit either, it's a trek up before we even reach reception! Though on a main road it's very peaceful, we practically have the place to ourselves yet they still put us up in the high heavens, about a 10min walk vertically up another hill! Within an hour or so we are chilling out by the pool, getting our first true taste of the sunny weather. Needless to say we burn a little & before heading out for the evening, we smother ourselves in Aloe Vera.
The hotel staff drop us into town, which is about 10mins away. Here we find a little night market serving traditional Thai curries & assortments of Spring rolls & samosas all extremely tasty & really cheap. Along the strip there is an area of go-go bars, we decide to sit and have a beer at one before heading back. They each have a couple of poles set up in the middle of them where the 'bar maids' are shaking their stuff. We spend the next hour sat at this bar playing the guessing game. Some of them are wearing shorts that are far too tight to smuggle a pound coin in let alone anything else, but then a quick glance upwards reveals a very suspect adams apple! We figure out a couple, but one has us completely stumped. They look like they are going to break something the way they are booty shaking around those poles. Dan has to hold Trish back as she is itching to do a few proper pole moves & show them what for, but she soon decides against it as we are on our 3rd beer by now & she doesn't want to fall on her head & show herself up! The rain descends upon us heavily, we had agreed a time with the hotel to pick us up so make a dash for it to our awaiting car. Needless to say we feel a bit merry so getting up the hill took slightly longer than the first time.
Blog Day 89 Wed 3rd August 2011
We take a walk to town for breakfast by which we mean lunch. The rest of the day is filled pretty much with chilling out again (not so directly in the sun though), followed by a wander back into town. Here we book our tickets to Krabi for the following day. We hit the food stalls again in the evening pretty hard. And although the curries were good the pancakes are even better. Trish goes for a pancake filled with banana, cinnamon & chocolate & Dan inhales one filled with coconut and chocolate. For a pound each we leave satisfied. Yummy!
