Blog Day 83, 84, 85 Thurs 28th, Fri 29th & Sat 30th July 2011
Day 1
So after an over-night coach ride to Surat Thani, 20 minutes coach ride to Don Sak pier, then a 3 hour ferry journey we finally step onto Koh Pha Ngan. As we walk along the pier we are bombarded with taxi offers. Seeing as we have no idea where our 'resort' is we hop into an open back taxi van with a load of other travelers. The rate is set at 50 baht per person. Which turns out shocking for us as you could hit our 'resort' with a stone from the pier! Lesson learnt; get familiar with the area before jumping in a cab.
The name of our accommodation is Lime & Soda Resort. We have a beach hut which is pretty much right next to the pool, restaurant and beach funny enough. The beach hut is basic, a room with a bed & a room with a toilet & cold shower, even the pool is warmer than the shower. We have a bite to eat & go for a stroll around the town. The afternoon quickly disappears into evening; we dine at the resort & have an early night.
Day 2
The resort is extremely quite so we don't wake up to early, we spend the day walking around the town, strolling along the beach & enjoying a swim in the pool. In the evening we enjoy a nice cocktail & cold beer whilst watching the sunset. Pretty chilled day.
Day 3
After strolling around the town in just a few hours yesterday we have decided that today we will get up early & hire a scooter, yes one of those things we complained about all the way through Vietnam!
With Dan behind the wheel Trish hangs on for dear life until we are both in the swing of it, we go about 30mins east to the main party island, its where they hold the full moon party's but unfortunately our trip isn't timed around this mad party on the beach. The beach itself is gorgeous though so we stop for a bit of brunch & then head back to our part of the island where we book the ferry for tomorrow to move onto Ko Samui. As we are booking this it comes over extremely dark, we get told to hurry back because a storm is heading in. Of course before we do this we pop into the 7eleven store for some supplies & before we make it out the heavens open. We make a dash for it but we only get as far as an Irish bar before we give up and dive in for cover. The rugby is on in about half hours' time anyway so we ride out the storm in the bar. Unfortunately what follows a storm on an island is a power cut, so any plans to watch the rugby are scuppered within 20 minutes of the first half. Once the storm lifted we ride over to the west of the island, it's a beautiful ride, lots of greenery & the air smells fresh & clean, due to the storm. We come across a driving range & Dan sees this as an opportunity to let off some steam & hit a few balls. After hitting about 50, Trish drags him away before it gets too dark. The roads are pretty safe to drive on around here but there are some major hills so probably best for it to not get too dark. Once we reach near where we are staying we stumble across a night food market, it's a real shame we didn't find this earlier as the food is probably the best we've had so far in all of Thailand & dirt cheap as well. We tuck in then & ride off into the sunset….well back to our beach hut anyway.
