We woke up early for our trip into France. Our first train left Pisa, after a decent night sleep (with air conditioning), around 9am and arrived in Genova at 11:15am. We had to get off the train and wait for an hour an a half for the next train to take us to Nice. While we waited we grew hungry, and having spent the cash we had in Pisa, we had none. It was very nice that the ATMs were not working around the train station in Genova, so we litterally were scrounging for money. We pulled all our change together and came up with about 8 euros. It was enough to get us both a sandwich and one drink. We really felt like poor college kids traveling around!!
Finally the train arrived and we were on our way. It was a very scenic route to Nice, we were along the coast almost the entire time, and wow, were there some awesome yachts!!! We got to Nice around 2ish, and had to find our way to the hostel. We called the hostel and they told us to get on a tram, get off in front of a supermarket and a car would come pick us up, so we were thinking, great we are going to be so far away from everything it is going to stink. After struggling with the Tram ticket machine, it only accepted coins and we had cash now...go figure, we made it to the pickup point and hostel. It is a nice hostel, (no A.C, but it's not too hot up on the mountain we're on). It seems like this is going to be a good hostel because they offer a bunch of day trips like scuba diving, sailing, canyoning, surfing, and some others...we are thinking about extending our stay here (if we can get a room) and doing some of these trips.
After we settled into our room, which is a small room with only 2 beds and we share a bathroom with one other small room (it is very cool since we booked a 12 bed mixed room!!) we headed off to find something to eat. We asked the girl at the desk for some suggestions and she sent us down to the beach. We had to walk down the mountain we were on to the tram stop where we were picked up and get on the tram towards the beach. It was very nice walking along the beach and there were a ton of restaurants, open market type places. We found one that we thought we might like to eat at...there was English on the menu, and sat down. It wasn't bad really, the service was less than par, but we order and appetizer of muscles, and for 10 euros we got an entire pot of about 80 or so muscles. It was a good deal. It took forever to get our main courses and check but once we did we decided to make our way back to the hostel for a good night sleep...tomorrow we are meeting up with Danny and plan to have a good time!
We will take a lot of pictures tomorrow and have a good time!!! We will, if it doesn't get too crazy, update again tomorrow night.
