Danny, how did you like Prague? It was my favorite city when I went there in '94. It was right at the beginning of capitalism for them, and it was a shopper's paradise!! Besides, it was also a beautiful old city. I know our family will be glad to see you when you get home in another month or so. Thanks for allowing me to share your trips with you.
Mom

Danny,
I know in some ways you're looking forward to the end of your studies, but not the end of your travel opportunities. You've seen some amazing things, haven't you! I'm excited for you. It sounds as if you have your last jaunts all planned and scheduled down to the very end of your time there. I bet you'll be glad to get home, though, to see your family. I'm glad you mom contacted me so I could see all the places you've been to and share these experiences somewhat with you. Take care and return home safely to us. Keep in touch.
Danny
To Nick's message:
Hopefully we will have mastered our sightseeing skills by the time you arrive. And definitely be ready to go crazy, I'm not only researching the churches, I'm also checking out the 5 story clubs...Anyways I can't wait to hang out w/ my bubba!
Danny
Mrs. Woody, I can only hope you will be wrong about the US doom and gloom. Although it seems we are facing enough trouble with our economy crashing.
Surprisingly our finals end the last week of July (25thish). We weren't expecting that because some carry over to the Mon. and Tues. of the next week. So we had planned on going to the beaches near Lisbon for 2 days before heading back. Now we are going to have 5 more days to travel, so after finals we will go to Venice for a day and Ljubljana...I spelled that correct believe it or not. It's the beautiful capital of Slovenia, where we hope to enjoy the outdoors like we did in Interlaken. We'll head back to Metz, pack and head out to Lisbon for the two days before heading back on Aug. 2, 1 week before we have to be to school for our fraternity/sorority stuff the week prior to school starting.
Nick

Danny and Laura:
We had a great time hanging out with you two!! But you two should have just come back to the hostel and stayed in our room so you didn't have to pay for a room near the beach. We will definitely be checking our times before we head out to a train. We'll be in Interlaken tomorrow night around 10 (it was supposed to be 6 but we messed those times up). And, we extended our trip another week...we'll be in Dublin the 13th-16th and Edinburgh 17th-20th...so if you guys are interested (if it's possible) y'all should come up there!! Anyways...it was great seeing y'all, good luck with the rest of your studies and talk to you soon!!!
Mom
Hey Danny Boy u home yet and did u have a great weekend? MOM

Danny,
Thanks for your reply. I read your blog on the Communists and you're very right... they were horrible. I remember the Cold War & hearing of the atrocities committed by the Soviets on those whose lives they controlled. I find it interesting that while we villify Hitler - and rightfully so - you don't hear very much about the several millions Stalin eliminated in his quest for power, or the Communists during the Cold War. Of course, that's because he was an ally during World War II, and that made everything ok. What a crock! When I was in Germany in '94, I saw the remaining sections of the Wall in Berlin, and heard horror stories about the torture that was carried on in the prisons that were underground, about being able to hear the people's screams and cries aboveground. There was visible graffiti on them then, too.
We in this country are so very fortunate that we've never had to endure such things, yet we take it so for granted, thinking nothing can touch us. Unfortunately, I fear trouble is coming our way soon. Enough doom and gloom.
I've loved the pictures, many from places I have seen for myself, but most of unfamiliar places. I'm so glad you're taking the opportunity to travel as much as you can while you're there. When do your classes finish and when will you be coming home?
Take care of yourselves and have a blast, but come home to us safely.
Danny
Mrs. Woody,
I'm glad my mom was able to contact you so that you can see our site. Switzerland was very beautiful, I could spend a whole summer there. Greece was also very nice, especially the islands.
We really haven't noticed any huge differences between Eastern and Western Europe, except for the prices. I remember watching the holocaust videos in your class, but I don't think we ever studied the Communist concentration camps. Its very sad how people from Eastern Europe were subject to both Nazi's and Communists. If you haven't already, you should read what I wrote about what we learned in Budapest from the museum about Communism. As for Berlin, there are two sections of the wall that are still up, we have a picture in front of them; they are covered with paintings and graffiti.
School is hectic, as one of my professors said, we are taking 10 hours of class in a 12 week span which is almost equivalent of 15 hours inn the usual 15 week fall and spring semester, and we are gone every weekend-so we don't get any work done then. But we are managing by getting mostly everything done during the week.
Keep enjoying our site, and feel free to continue writing us messages. It's great hearing from you.
Laura
Thanks for the weather update Miss Bonnie. Last time we checked, we thought we had a 60% chance too so we were really excited with that update (literally, Danny started jumping up and down). No worries about me going topless...I won a bet that will save my dignity so I'll be covered up (my bathing suits are pretty small already though, right?) Have fun at your beach!
