CUZCO
A long flight over to Peru followed by a quick over night stay in Lima then a morning flight to Cuzco! A pleasant little town set in the mountains welcomes us. Old colonial style buildings surround the main square with old rocky pathways and lanes weaving in and out and up and down the mountains. The main square has a real buzz to it! Local Peruvians busy in their little stalls, on their way to the markets and walking their alpacas up and down the lanes dressed in their traditional clothing! Although the buildings take on the a rather dull grey, its the people, the music, the yummy aromas and the nightlife that really make this a colourful place!
We enjoy our stay in a hostel close to the main square, walks around town and a day trip to a tiny village in the mountains out of town to feed 250 hungry children! What a fun day that was, hanging out with villages, some of whom had never seen westerners, particularly a girl with bright blonde hair. I think the poor little kids thought they had seen a ghost. What fun we had playing with them, using the hoolahoops and skipping ropes and then watching them enjoy a yummy feast. They were so grateful but it's the experience that we had with them that certainly made a great start to our trip.
