What a start! Arriving at terminal 5, about to check in our bags, we were offered 250 quid each to get on the next flight as they were overbooked, in the end not everyone showed up for the original flight and we had to RUN to the plane (terminal 5 isnt small)- because we were so late, Chriss bag got left behind in London and had to follow on, luckily it got to us within a few hours and I guess we saved money by not going into the duty free.
We got to our room which is tiny, has a brick wall for a view and claustrophobic vertically striped wallpaper but the location cancels it all out.
We woke up, took a stroll to Grammercy Park to a Diner for breakfast, we bought a bus tour package which they accidently gave us for half price. We took a tour through uptown, central park and harlem. Next we did the Empire State building, great view, and we think we saw a poor little pidgeon committing suicide . Then we went to Macy's and got lost inside. After we found our way out we did a night bus tour of Manhattan and Brooklyn, the lights were amazingly beautiful at night, no picture can do it justice.
The next day we took a bus to Greenwich Village and SoHo and went to see Ground Zero. We thought we'd get an ice cream at it was HOT- so we got Snow Cones, be warned, these are Horrible. We took James's advice and got the free Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of liberty and the view. Once back in Downtown Manhattan we thought we would get another ice cream to make up for the dissapointing Snow Cone so we got these Oreo ice creams which were also pretty poor. I miss English ice cream!
Back in Midtown we got a Starbucks (which we are quite addicted to now) and then found this Mexican on 3rd ave it was really loud so you couldnt hear eachother and really dark so you couldnt see the food, but packed full of new yorkers and we could see why.. the burritos were really cheap and also delicious!
The next few days we chilled out a lot, went to the park, did a tour of Maddisson square garden, tried more ice creams but still couldnt find a good one , ate too much food.
We went to a cute bar near our hotel one night and tried to understand a baseball game between the Yankees and the Red Sox, kind of understood it, but what I liked most was the Yellow Bird cocktails mmmmm.. sex and the city style!
We had an interesting day on 4th on July, we found a Church of Scientology and thought we would pop in out of curiousity. If this ever happens to you, dont do it! look it up on the internet or something. They kept us there for an hour and a half trying to make us buy this book and made us watch this film about scientology that i swear had hidden brainwashing messages in it!!
Anyway we got away from them eventually and made our way to the East river to watch Macy's 4th July fireworks. They were good, but we both think reallly overrated. The most entertaining thing was all of the Patriotic Americans that were screaming and shouting 'I love america, I love this country!' while they were stood in the rain on a Friday night hmmm
Since then we went to the Natural history museum, Curry hill, we saw Rent on broadway which was great, and our favorite was shopping all day in SoHo! Shopping in England will never be the same again
Our time has come to an end here in New York but we are looking forward to the Trek tomorrow and will probably spend our last day here rollerskating in Central Park.
If you're still reading then come back and check up on us soon xxx
