Well sorry it has taken so long to update the blog but we have been really busy and internet access costs a fortune in america . We had the tine of our lives trekking across america we made some really good friends with lots of people . On our trek bus we had four norwegians , four sweedish girls , a welsh guy and two koreans amd we will try to stay in contact with all of them.
Anyway after we left New York we travelled down to Washington via Maryland state , washington was very interresting we saw the white house ( George was on holiday, otherwise im sure he would of invited me in for a cup of tea). We then made a detour to see John F Kennedy's grave which was interresting and then saw the changing of the guard which is a big american military ceremony which not many people see . After washington we headed down to West Virginia which is redneck country there wasnt a lot there just rednecks in dungarees and big trucks .
Next it was tennesse which was a really nice place with nice people and here we did white water rafting which was great and we got drunk with a load of rednecks and i beat all of them at beer pong ( which i will teach you how to play when i get back ) . We didnt get the chance to go to Graceland it was 6 hours out of the way . Next stop was Alabama now this part of America is the part known as the bible belt , there are a lot of methodist church's and billboards about god and lots of small towns .
Nxt up Louisianna and New Orleans where the night life is absouloutely crazy they certainly like a drink and the jazz clubs are great and nothing closes, and the food is great ( beef poboys , jumbaliya and Gumbo ) . But on the flip side louisianna is really poor you wouldnt think it is in America there is poverty everywhere and refugee camps on the side of the roads under the motorways where everyone lives in Tents . We also went to the places worst hit by the hurricanes where there are still ruins of houses and red painted cross's to signify someone died there which is really sad . Loisianna also has a lot of Mosquitos and it is really humid we all got bit pretty bad but Danielle was def bit the worst litrugly hundreds of bites .
Our next state was Texas which is HOT , HOT , HOT , the lowest temperature you would get is 100 degrees here we went to visit the Alamo which was interesting learnt all about the cowboys and Indians and Davy Crockett , i really liked San Antonio it was really like a western the buildings and everyone wheres cowboy hats . Also in Texas we went to a bar called the Midnight Rodeo which was a real authentic country and western line dance bar , Line dancing is difficult especially when you are drunk .
In texas we also took a de tour and crossed the border into Mexico and went to a little town called Acuna whiich was pretty dead but it was nice to experience Mexico got a few Tacos had a Corona and that was that .
Then it was on to New Mexico which is a huge state but there is not much there just farmland but we did get to go to Roswell and Area 51 and see all the little green men which was real good and then to Santa Fe which is a really cute little town where every building has to painted the same shade of brown by law so it was quite strange to see, had a lovely steak there .
Next came my favourite bit of my trip a visit to monument valley where the views were stunning this is where all the john wayne , clint eastwood etc westerns were filmed . We got to so something not many do and stayed a night with a real Native American tribe called the Navajo who spoke there own language , live without electricity and running water in huts called Hogons which was a real experience and we ate there traditional food and listened to there traditional music dance and it was great , Next morning we got up at 5 to watch the sun rise over the valley which was amazing and im not realy one for the whole scenery sunrise stuff but it was great.
Next stop Grand Canyon amazing scenery we hiked down the canyon and then back up again which is tough, going down is alright its the coming up thats the hard bit but it was worth doing , good excercise then at night by our tents we made smores ( chocolate and marshmallow on the open fire ).
We then made the short trip to Utah to a real life cowboy ranch i didnt bother doing any horse riding it was well over 100 degrees and too hot so i gave it a miss that night at the ranch we had a massive party with some other groups that were trekking across which was a good laugh.
We then proceeded early next morning when i thought i was going to die of a hangover to Zion National park which is where there are lots of waterfalls and mountains and real beautiful scenery we did a canyon river walk where you basically wade a river inbetween two cantons which was great fun . That night we decided to go out for a few beers, Zion is in utah where everyone is a Mormon and drinking coffe and alcohol is pretty much forbidden we ended up walking two miles to find a small bar this was the only bar in the whole town and people would travel for hours literally to get there it wasnt even that great . Utah law also says that you have to buy food whenever you order beer but we managed to get around it .
Next day we were going to the place i was looking forward to the most LAS VEGAS BABY , we got to vegas got to our hotel which was suprisingly really plush , we all put our glad rags on and went round to our tour leaders hotel room to have some pizza and a few beers , then we got to go on a limo ride around vegas with champagne and everything we got to freemont street where they have the worlds biggest tv, of all the people there the camera zoomed in on me and i was on the worlds biggest tv next thing a guy comes running up to interview me live on the tv , he assumed i was in the army i told him i wasnt he was an american comedian ( a bit like a jonathon ross ) he proceeded to rip the piss out of me but it was all in good fun .
Then onto the casinos in the limo first casino was treasure island i won 20 dollars on roulette then we all hit some bars on the strip a few cocktails and whiskeys later i was back at the roulotte table and winning , they are really nice to you when you are winning anyway before i knew it it was 7.00 am i was 280 dollars to the good so i went home happy.
Next day we got up late lounged by the pool and then early evening went for one of first Las Vegas buffets at the Luxor the food was great with a massive selection but paled in comparison to the Mandaly Bay buffet which was just out of this world every food you could imagine was there. We had a quiet night that night did a bit of Gambling and lost , Danielle was winning in the Bellagio but then the Casino manager decided that her driving liscence was not valid id and made us stop playing danielle cashed the chips and went to MGM grand but lady luck was not shining there and we lost .
We spent another two days in vegas ate some great food but lost a bit on the Gambling . We then made our own way to Los Angeles which from what we saw of it is not a nice place the people arent nice and the city isnt that nice either. We went to Hollywood which was a big let down we were meant to stay ther for a week but hated it so an impromptu trip to San Francisco was planned.
San Francisco was great people were a lot nicer but it is pretty cold there we saw Alcatraz and the Bridge rode the trams and went to the Gay Disrict which is really in your face half naked men everywhere it was interesting but i was also scared of them. We met our sweedish friends from the trek here and went out for food and a few drinks with them.
We then got a flight down to San Diego to meet up with our Irish Friend we met on the trek we arrived at our hostel and then were palnning a trip across the border to Tijuana Mexico for a night out drinking (22 dollars all you can drink) we went to Tijuana had a great night out . The next few days were spent lounging at the beach and the sea .We also went to San Diego Zoo which is regarded as the best in the world and it is pretty damn good every animal you can think off , even Panda Bears and breeds of bird that are extinct in the wild .
Our last night we spent in a motel in Chula Vista which is right on the mexican border just because we really wanted to stay in a motel while we were in America then it was back to Los Angeles for our 12 hour flight to Malolo island Fiji . ( Just a quick note im in an Internet cafe at the min and the guy next to me has been sat there watching porn videos on the internet for the past hour )
