Hello everybody,
The next leg of our epic adventure is Peru. We flew into Lima and got a taxi to a district called Miraflores. This is the more respectable part of Lima which was apparent from the selection of fine restaurants viewed from our hostel window .... McDonalds, Burger King and K.F.C. We ventured to Central Lima and had a quick stroll around and then we got on a bus to Pisco. We were aware of how long we should of been on the bus but there was a good movie on and we managed to miss our stop, I told the driver and he very kindly dumped us at the side of the road. He told us to wave down a bus from the same company that comes along and they can take us back to Pisco. Luckily we only waited about five minutes. Pisco was a busy little town. We did a boat trip to the Balestas Islands from here which was really enjoyable. As you approach the Islands you can see and hear lots of sea birds, as you get closer you realise that infact you can see and hear thousands of sea birds, as you get even closer you can see, hear and smell thousands of sea birds. The Islands are covered in guano ( bird poo ) which is collected every seven years and the locals use it as fertiliser. There are two men who live on one of the Islands and they protect the birds. There was Pelicans, Boobys, Penguins and a few more that I can't remember. We just couldnt believe the amount of birds that were there. Keeping the birds company was a massive colony of South American Sea Lions.
Sorry folks have to go. Will continue soon.
lots of love
