So another week, another blog entry to keep you guys updated on whats going on down under. We left Byron Bay on the 30th March and headed on up to Surfers Paradise. On first thoughts we're pretty sure that we were gonna only stay one night here, it was all pretty damn Americanised (if thats even a word) and just felt too much like Florida in Oz. We went and shipped our stuff into our hostel, the Islander, which had squash courts, tennis courts and a swimming pool - non of which we used. On the 31st they had a 5-a-side footy match up on the common which we signed up for and met a couple of top guys, both called Tom (one known as Jacko), who talked use in to heading out with them that evening, not that we needed much persuading. They had met up with a couple of guys, Alex and Sharky, who they'd met in Sydney and we had a pre in the common room before heading to a club called Sin City. It was ladies night, which is utterly rediculous as the girls get free drinks all night long!! But we had a good night and we persuaded to stay for another one. Also, the Kebabs are amazing here, theyre like tortilla wraps and everyone eats them... even when theyre sober.... Anyway... the following night we hit a pub crawl around Surfers with Tom, Jacko, Alex and Sharky which was a top laugh, I think we ended up visiting about 10 bars in all and were pretty worse for wear as we walked/stumbled back to the hostel. Surfers was a blast, but we had to head up to Brisbane that following day to catch Banks at Danny Newlands for a night out before he went home.
We got to Brisbane on saturday the 2nd of April and checked into Base backpackers cus we hadnt managed to get in contact with Danny to see if we could crash at his. This place was a complete hole. I could handle the mini cockroaches at the Island, they hadnt been a problem but this place was graffitied and stank to high hell. Finally, I got a text from Banks and headed over to St Lucia (not the Caribbean Island) for a pre with Alex, Danny and his mate Sam Cooke. We went to Fridays, on a Saturday, which was completely packed and found ourselves at a Casino at 5am with Bank up about $200... all in all it was another good night, but after 3 nights our I was starting to fell the strain - obviously Zante last year wasnt training enough! Over the next two days we chilled round Dannys, now Banks had headed home he had some space for us to crash, which was pretty sweet of him and Sam saved us around $60 for two nights! We watched a wicked film 'The Blindside' about Michael Oher, the Batimore Ravens offensive lineman - deffo reccomended. On the 4th April I decided to go on the XXXX Brewery tour whilst Harrison went to chill in the park. All the beer is made mechanically over here, not like Marlow Brewery at all, but the free beer at the end was a definate upside!
We spent the day of the 5th April moving up to Noosa Heads, which had been reccomended to us by the Travel Guide in Byron Bay, and I'm pretty glad we slid it in because its sweet here. We got here on the 5th at about 6pm and the place we wanted to stay at, Flashpackers, was completely booked out, so we found a bed at the Halse Lodge YHA which was nice in itself. But the following morning we moved to Flashpackers - easily the best hostel on the east coast of Oz so far! Free Internet, Free Wifi, Free Movies, Free Surfboards and Free Breakfast and the hostel is modern as hell! If you travel the East Coast - you have to stay here! Anyway today we went to the Main Beach and borrowed surf boards from the hostel... when in Rome... but only managed to stand up on a wave for about 2 seconds after spending about 30 minutes in the sea - I think I'm going to stick to sailing. We caught the girls and their Norwiegian friends on the beach where Amy was fascinated by her 'Toxic Dolphin' and caught a right back in their campervan... which is pretty cool. So as a failed surfer we went back to Flashpackers to be met by all you can eat dominos pizze for $8 (about 5 quid) which is my idea of heaven! Tonight we just kicked back, ate some (lots of) pizza and sat thru Rush Hour, Sahara, Crack and Hurricane so far, might get up and watch the football later on after the humiliating defeats of Spurs and Inter last night, I'm really missing the Champions League!
Tomorrow it's Kangaroo Steaks for dinner, sounds cool!
Anyway, thats all for another week folks! Speak soon!
Peace
