Right so, LOADS has happened since the last blog post. So far over the last 10 days I've completed Fraser Island and the Whitsundays Island and travelled about 2000km! To begin with we arrived at Fraser on the 8th April to the most horrid free Spag Bol I've ever tasted. This was followed by a terrible Fraser Island briefing from a German guy whose grasp of English wasn't great... but still better than my German. I guess. We headed off after the briefing to pick up some food for the 2 day trip and hit the hay early doors as it was a 6.30am wake up the following morning. The early wake up wasn't welcome, however, we packed our bags and headed to the cars and we;re on our way to Fraser Island. The start wasn't great as one of the cars got a punctured tyre on the way to the ferry... bad times... but the ferry waited for us and we caught it and were on Fraser in no time! Our first stop was a Fresh Water lake, can't remember the name, and went for a swim... these lakes are just like having a wash as theres no salt or anything contaminating the water and you can feel getting out like you've just had a shower! Then we headed off to another lake, which was even more stunning as it comes out of nowhere in the middle of a sand dune, this lake will only be there for the next 60 years as sand is continously blown into the lake shores. Finally we checked out the only shipwreck on the Island before heading to camp and hitting the goon again, this time along with a wicked BBQ.
The following day we headed up to Indian Head, which is a huge out crop of rock which you can see or miles from and then to the Champagne Rock Pools, where Mark, our Canandian mate, thought it was a good idea to do what he was told not to, walk along the edges of the pools, and proceded to slip over and slice open his back... whatta muppet! The following and final day on Fraser was spent cruising up and down 70 Mile Beach and going to lake McKenzie which looks just the the Carribean - stick it into good, its amazing! Finally we headed back to the hostel in Hervey Bay and had a top night in the bar there, with games of Killer Pool and the booze was flowing!
On the 12th we met up with Niall and Fraser (an aptly named Scotsman) and hit the beach and had a real manly steak bbq to which Fraser shouted when finished: "Cor, now all I want to do is drink some Whiskey and punch a Horse!" which is definately without doubt the quote of the trip so far! Mark, Harrison and I caught an overnight Greyhound that evening and woke up in Airlie Beach the following morning of the 13th April.
In short, I could live in Airlie Beach, its wicked. Hundreds of sailing boats, a lagoon with no sand and numerous sports bars and clubs... freeken perfect. However, we were here for only 4 or 5 days and we spent the first day bbq-ing at dusk (5.30pm for those of you who don't know) and then headed out with the girls (who I'm pretty sure are stalking us up the coast, due to our dashing good looks) and their Noweigien (no idea how to spell that) friends. Personally I called it a night early as the goon was flowing, I had run out of cash and wanted to be up and not hungover for the Whitsundays Trip the following day.
On the 14th April, we left on Matador, a world championship winning Maxi (Americas Cup, but not quite) boat for our cruise around the Whitsundays. We met a fantastic group including, Mori, Henry, Oskar, Tim, Adam, Mike, Andy, Merieke, Bea, Helene etc (apologies for those who I've missed out!!) and the first day was spent sailing out into the islands in preparation for tomorrow.
No so much goon was drunk that night and thus we were feeling pretty fresh come the 7am wakeup the following day. We went straight to Whithaven beach (pictured above) which is beautiful to say the least - one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Here the sand is so pure it was used to make the lens for the Hubble Telescope. We spent the morning there and then headed round to Luncheon Bay, so called because thats where the fish go to feed on the coral spores and organisms that are left there by the great barrier reef. We SCUBA dived down into the reef which was a completely unforgettable experience as the colours and fish are just unbelieveable! That night we gooned up with games of 'Zimmy Zimmy' a horrible variation of the sign game, the spoon game, one up one down and finally I introduce Arrogance which really finished everybody off!
The following day we headed back to Airlie Beach, I managed to wing a 45 minute go at helmin the boat which was awesome, aand went out that evening with the crew for a couple of drinks, which topped off a brilliant tour. The follwoing day we had a wicked BBQ with Mark, Mike and Andy - with Kangaroo Steaks and Sausages before going with Oskar to find a bar that was showing the Liverpool v Arsenal game. We ended up in Paddys Shenannigans and arrived for a 1am ko. The game was dull compared to Stokes 5-0 thrashing of Bolton in the FA Cup Semi-Final. But we were chucked out after 78mins as the bar was empty. OUTRAGEOUS! Myself, Harrison and another Swede Eric stayed to watch the game through the window. 8 minutes of added time was signalled due to Jamie Carragher being ko'd in the second half and on the 8th minute of injury time Arsenal won a penalty and van Persie converted. By this time we called it a night having been forcibly removed by a really pissed of bouncer. Only to wake up the following morning and find out from my mum, no less, that Kuyt had converted a penalty two minutes after van Persies!!
Anyway, I digressed, that day we chilled and hopped on another overnight Greyhound to Cairns and today we've checked into Gilligans, again followed by the girls, which is a pretty kick ass hostel, but still not as good as FlashPackers in Noosa. Check in isn't until 2pm, which is why I'm writing this now.
Anyway, on the 22nd of April I head to New Zealand, hopefully to catch up with my cousin Karl and his wife Alice, before starting off on the Kiwi Experience.
Hope you're enjoying the blog guys and sorry for it being so long.
Loving it out here, but missing England a tad (never thought I'd say that!)
