Right, so its been about a year since my last blog entry so this one could be a tad long, sorry guys. Anway... Left Cairns on the 22nd and hopped on a flight over to Auckland, New Zealand. I checked into Base Central Auckland pretty late and hit the hay. The followinie day I headed out to check out the rugby in the evening as this place is ridden with sport bars and caught the Crusaders and Queensland Reds games with a couple of Aussie before heading to the Casino and promptly got chucked out for being under 21... but only when I began to win. Hmmm. Basically I bummed around Auckland for the next week or so as I had to wait for my Thai visa to come through as now I'm spending longer in Asia I needed to get that all sorted out. Over the last few days in Auckland I managed to me up with my cousin, Karl and his wife Alice before heading out to begin the Kiwi Experience on the 30th.
I kicked off the Kiwi bus on the 30th and met up with two guys called Nick and Kieran, who I stuck with from Auckland to Wellington with Nick and still with Kieran. First day we hit Cathedral Cove, which is a pretty awesome secluded beach in the North of the North Island and then headed over to a town called Whitianga to stay at the hostel over night. The following day we moved onto Rotorua where we went Luging. A pretty sick gravity go-kart race course down the side of the mountain this was awesome and preceded heading to a Maori Village just outside of town. The village was amazing and we eperience what the Maori culture used to be like around 300-400 years ago. Following this we got hideously boozed up in the Hostel bar and caught the Liverpool v Fulham game on Sky Sport. 3-0.
THe following day we stayed in the MIddle of nowhere at a place called Waitomo where there was nothing but a bar. The bar took a huge taking that night, And we moved on with heavy heads in the morning. Also, I managed to crack Sam in the nuts with the white ball whilst bearing at pool. Once in a lifetime shot and one of the funniest moments of my life.
Following Rotorua we headed off to Taupo where we spent two nights doing nothing but recovering from the Night before as we hit Element Bar and McMillians bar pretty damn hard. Highlights here included scaling the McDonalds plane whilst intoxicated and riding the limo with Sam on the way to his Skydive. All in all an awesome couple of days but not too much to tell.
After Taupo we went to River Valley where most of the group went white water rafting, but I didnt as I didnt have enough money for it, but alls well that ends well because instead of White water rafting we had a few beers instead. After River Valley we moved onto the capital Wellington where Pete, Sam and myself rushed off the bus to make the Hurricans vs Blues game in the SUper 15 at the Westpac Stadium. Was an awesome atmosphere with the game going down to the last place and the blues came through about 19-13. I think.
We headed out on the town that night and managed to meet up with Ali Willians and nicked a picture and wound up back at the hostel around 4am. The others climbed Mount something in Auckland the following morning but I slept in tiil about 3pm as recovery was need over the last few days. The same occured the following day as we just bummed around the city before catching a bus to the ferry to the south Island.
We arrived in Nelson on the 9th May and stayed for a couple of nights, which included a centrurion and a couple of trips to the bars of Nelson and its wonderful 'Walk Thru' 24 hour McDonalds. Also during our stay here we headed over to the Centre of New Zealand which had some awesome views over the Harbour and Tasman National Park. THe following day we headed to Westport stopping off at Lake Ratoiti to grab some awesome photos off the walkway into the lake. This was followed that night by the Poo Party at Les' Poo Pub which was a fancy dress party. I went as a Sheikh from the UAE but this failed massively due to the lack of suitable robes, anway we had an awesome night and it was a top laugh.
This brings us round to the 14th of May, today, I'm now sat in Franz Josef having just returned from the most amazing glacier walk where some of the Ice and views were fantastic. I'll get some pictures up but it simply wont do it justice. A quiet couple of days with following now before we hit Queenstown with a vengance for 7 days including trips to the Milford Sound, Nevis and Canyon Swing.
Sorry for the length and much more has happened on the Kiwi to note here but I cant remember it all at the moment so this is all I've got but its the most incredible trip!
Haven't managed to get everyone a mantion to shout outs to Sam, Roscoe, Finlay, Kieran, Nick, Pete, Paul, Mags, Fi, Lorna, Chris, Vinne, China etc... as well as anyone I've met and havent mentioned!!!
Peace and Love,
Dan
