KRABI
Hello everyone, after the week that we spent doing sweet F.A on Ko Phan Ngan we decided that we needed some civilization again so we jumped on a boat to return to the mainland, and then caught another bus down to Krabi.
Krabi is the main tourist area in Southern Thailand, and is also the main place to catch the boat out to the Phi-Phi islands; which are just a few miles off shore. These islands especially, but the whole Krabi area in general caught the tsunami pretty bad, all along the waterfront they now have signs up directing people to the nearest high ground in case another one strikes. The week that we spent here was pretty uneventful, apart from two things, our day rock climbing and scalped in South East Asia the sequel.
First we will fill you’s in our day’s rock climbing, Krabi is supposed to be one of the best rock climbing sites in the world. (us pros only climb the top spots) The whole area is surrounded by stunning lime stone karsts which make for excellent climbing and some of the views from the cliff tops are really beautiful. We are really starting to get into this rock climbing business and will definitely be doing it again. Now for the interesting part, SCALPED PART 2.
James’s last haircut had been in Vietnam and was administered by a man on a street corner with no more than a plastic garden chair, a little old mirror and a long power lead.
This was a Barber Vietnamese style; it took James two passes by before he finally decided to take the plunge and get into hot seat, but the final result was fine and James reckons that it was one of the best haircuts that he’d ever had. Seven weeks had now gone by and there had been reports of a fifth beetle being at large on the streets of Southern Thailand. Action was needed. The only place that we could find was a hair salon called TONI&GUY or as James warmly refers to it TONI&f***ING GUY. The place seemed nice enough so a simple short back and sides should not be a problem, or so James thought. Once in the seat the Thai lady asks “same style,” “yes” James replies ‘same style only shorter.’ The Thai lady sort of nodded and then proceeded to set up the hair clippers and with one fowl swoop took his fringe clean off to number three level, his face was an absolute classic, from this point on there was no going back and a number three was readily administered.
Needless to say I found this whole episode highly amusing, after him laughing at me with my Vietnam hairdressing experience; and what is it they say ‘what goes around comes around.’
Thankfully all sightings of the fifth beetle in southern Thailand have now ceased, but there have been reports of someone looking like an escaped convict on the loose.
Next stop country number 5 Malaysia
Take care Danielle & the convict
