I was originally planning to start this blog on Sunday when Catherine & I will be going to Pisa in Italy for 5 days but today was so awesome I'm going to start it a little earlier.
Today was the first time we got to see our baby! We had our first trimester scan at Southampton Princess Anne Hospital and it was an incredible thing to witness, truly amazing! The baby was very active, arms & legs wiggling around & we could even see its heart beating. I feel sorry for any parent who's ever had to miss out on the first scan as, to me anyway, it really hit home just how real it all was. I'm not saying that in a "Oh my god, what am I gonna do" kind of way, quite the opposite, I'm more excited now than I was when Catherine first told me she was pregnant. I could see how happy she was too whilst looking at the ultrasound images, I held her hand & we both welled up a little bit, not too much, just a bit!
After the ultrasound we were given 2 pictures that we had to pay £5 for, the NHS is a business after all and then we headed in to see another nurse so Catherine could give blood for a test to help determine wether the baby may or may not have downs syndrome. The nurse was awesome! We got talking about holidays & us going to Pisa when she declared how much she loves Italy & has wanted to go to Sicily ever since watching The Godfather films. From there we started talking about The Sopranos & our theories on certain episodes. What really impressed me was that she really knew her stuff & wasn't just into it on an entertainment level. I recommended Boardwalk Empire to her & she said she already watches & loves that too so she's probably, no definitely, my 2nd favourite nurse of all time! She told us that Catherine's likely due date would be the 22nd August, 2 days after our 9 Year anniversary.
On the way home we stopped for dinner at The Harvester & talked some more about the scan & what we'll call the baby for now instead of referring to "it" as, well, "it", so we're gonna call "it" Wiggles for now.
Today was awesome!!!!!
