Hey, me and sarah got the ferry to Dunk Island this morn- it looked like it was kinda going to drift along slowly, then the driver suddenly sped off and had it bouncing on the water like crazy, my stomach lurching, good fun though. He made us wade through to the sea to get to the boat- even though its jellyfish season and nobody is supposed to go in the water lol.
When we pulled into Dunk Island it was stunning- really green water, beautiful pale sand beaches (at mission beach the sand is kinda orangey, still nice). We headed straight for the NP to go on one of the walks, but got major lost in the giant resort they have here- it was a maze, really pretty gardens and rooms everywhere. Eventually we escaped and got to the beach, and followed it along til we got to the trail that led to Muggy Muggy beach- about half an hour away, it was an awesome beach- big boulders stretching out to the sea and green water. We then walked through inland through the forest for about three hours. We almost climbed to the top of the mountain on the island, but we were knackered (should have had breakfast lol). We saw loads of lizards and geckos, few spiders.
We then walked back to the resort and had lunch there, and lay by the sea til we caught the ferry back. We walked along mission beach and then hung out at the pool at the hostel. Quite a chilled out days for me so far. Kinda wish we'd gone rafting but apparently its better in New Zealand anyway :-)
We went to the supermarket, came bk and had dinner, and I wrote my postcards for home. We watched a lightning storm over the ocean, and it closer and then it poured down here for a bit. Its stopped now- hope the roads are all ok for our bus trip tomorrow. Were going to magnetic island- just tried to book a room at Base backpackers there but its full, might try another one....write again soon xx
