Hey, its thursday the 26th of feb and me and sarah are at peppies beach house hostel at Rainbow beach. We arrived staight off our early bus yesterday and this hostel has been brilliant- I found it in my lonely planet and we picked it cus it gives you free breakfasts, and a free BBQ every wed night which was good timing! They even let us have free breakfast yesterday hours before we could check in.
We stored our stuff after brekkie and went for a walk to the beach- it was high tide so we couldnt walk along the bay yet and see the multicoloured sand cliffs which gives Rainbow beach its name. We hung out on the beach then walked around the town, got some stuff from the shops that we needed, and came bk to peppies to check in. We felt exhausted actually- we cant remember the last night that we had enough sleep! I fell asleep by the pool, with my contacts in- doing this alot lately lol. so is sarah!
We got ourselves up and went bk to the beach at 1pm, had a cheese and ham toastie on the way to wake us up, and started our walk. Climbed over some rocks for the first part of it, and it actually started to rain lol. But we just wore our bikinis and carried on- trust the brits to do this lol. We didnt see one more person on the beach! It stopped raining after a while and we kept walking down the coast for 2 hours. Saw some funky crabs- bright green, pretty big. A little bit of the coast has black sand which is pretty cool to walk through, different. The tide got lower and the beach got wider and wider. It was a lush place to be- the cliffs were cool. Eventually we stopped and turned around and came bk. Felt like we'd walked a long way. It was another 2hrs back and on the way bk we saw a few people- they only walked for a bit then turned bk. I looked at the map when we got bk and we had walked at least 8km, maybe 10. We came bk to the hostel and booked our dolphing ferry cruise for tomorrow, another must do at rainbow beach!
Me had 6 german girls in our 8 bed dorm, and when we walked in they had so much stuff we couldnt move! They hogged every socket lol. We all had our BBQ, which was really nice, and then we went to be at like 9 lol. Got up at 6 this morning for the bus to see the dolphins.
The ferry took us to Tin Can bay, where we watched the conservationists stand in the shallow water with the indio-pacific, eastuarine dolphins, and they told us about how for 3 generations the dolphins have come every morn for a bit of fish to eat- it started when one dolphin was attacked by bull sharks, came to the harbour, and they nursed it bk to help- then it kept returning and brought others with it sometimes.
Then we given a fish each and fed it to Mystique, the dolphin in the water which had been attacked by sharks. They said after that they had fish spare- there wasnt very many people there which was cooll, so I got another fish and fed him again, then again- six times lol. Pretty cool- and his mate came, a dolphin called Patch, so saw her too. Really lucky to see two!
Me and sarah were the last people in the water, hung out with patch for ages. She didnt want to leave even when there was n more fish left. These dolphins were wild, so we didnt touch or swim with them, and I found it amazing how they chose to come up to us. They were genuinely curious :-)
Now me and sarah are bk at the hostel after our awesome morning, I'm doing this blog and then I dont know what we'l do fr the rest of the day, whatever we feel like. Got to chose between chilling at the pool or chilling at the sea. Our OZ bus leaves at 8am tomorrow for Noosa, another nice beach where were thinking of going camel and horse riding :-) Write again soon, love char xxxxxxxxxxxxx
