Hey, me and sarah are in Brisbane at the mo.
Noosa was gorgeous- very posh place, stunning houses on the hills and by the beach, amazing shops- not exactly for backpackers though lol. Pretty expensive. Me and sarah got off our oz bus at 10am, went to YHA hostel but it was full so went to Koalas hostel, and we made sure we booked our accommodation for the next week as this bit of the coast, the sunshine coast, is very busy. Koalas is nice- nice rooms, big bar, big pool etc.
We walked to Noosa town and then through to the National Park. We had read that there were wild koalas here and we really wanted to see one in the wild before we saw one in a zoo. We had just arrived at the park entrance and were about to start one of walking routes when an old couple asked us if we'd seen the koala. They pointed him out to us- right above our heads, way way up in a tall eucalytpus tree. We were so chuffed lol. The funny thing is we then did three of the walking trails, up and around Noosa hill, through the tropical forest as well as the eucalpytus forest, and along the coast too- and we didnt see one koala! Just the one at the entrance lol.
We saw plenty of Brush turkey birds, common here everywhere- even in the centre of town round the shops. And plenty of Lace monitors- I had to grab sarah by the shoulder again- she nearly stepped one one lying flat out on the path sunning himself. These ones seemed more used to people than the ones I'd seen before- I could go right up to them and take some good photos.
Noosa has fantastic surfing- we watched loads of people get some really good rides when we did the coastal walk.
We went to the beach after our walking- we didnt go the main beach, too many people for us- were used to having beaches to ourselves! So we went to a smaller beach near it, where most people were surfing, and chilled there til about 5ish. We then went round the town centre, did the boardwalk along the beach, and did a bit of shopping. We walked back out of town, past our hostel, and to the supermarket to get some food for dinner. Bumped into a guy who was in my hostel in Cairns, small world- you always see travellers that you met before.
We went and had dinner at the hostel, then I got a call from Thom, one of the twins we met on Fraser Island. They live in Noosa and wanted to see us, so we all met up in the Koala bar for the night, played some great music.
Next day, me and sarah went to Australia Zoo, Steve Irwins zoo- we were supposed to go camel riding but it got cancelled as not enough people were going. It made sense to see Australia zoo from Noosa anyway, free shuttle bus. We had an awesome day at the zoo, it was probably the best zoo ive ever been to actually. Immaculate, massive enclosures for all the animals, plenty of animals free about the zoo- the kookabaras- laughing ones and green winged ones- see these everywhere here too. And hundreds of waterdragons- they were under your feet everywhere you went! And the brush turkeys too.
The zoo is about 75 acres, and had plenty of crocodiles but loads of other wildlife too. I found it a bit sad looking at all the steve irwin tributes and the videos of his family, but really amazing too- the whole family are real avid conservationists and I really admire them for that.
We watched some wildlife shows, talks, conservation presentations, and at about 3ish we went to see the koalas.
When we got to the koalas I decided to pay to hold one and I had a photo taken with it, which Ive posted home. It was such a cute photo, the koala nuzzled up to my face and then hugged me really hard. After the photo it started to sleep lol. I wasnt a massive fan of koalas before I came to OZ, I didnt see why they were such a big deal- now I think theyre so cute, even the way they sleep for 18hrs every day lol.
Me and sarah suddenly realised that it was four oclock, and our shuttle bus left at 4! So we sprinted all the way across the zoo, got there just in time, unable to breathe lol. Its quite funny cus we took the mick out of the old driver guy for telling everyone that the bus left at 4, about 100 times, and then we nearly missed it. We watched more steve irwin DVD's on the way bk, amazing stuff.
When we got back to Noosa we walked to our hostel and made dinner, then packed up to leave for Brisbane the next morning.
When we got the oz bus the next day, we drove out of Noosa along the coastal route and saw more of the nice houses. I actually miss Noosa, and Thom! p.s. I can tell you that he had an amazing beach house! And nice cars. I would love to live in Noosa. Anyway, on to Brisbane!
