Hi guys me again, Dani has handed her notice in!!!
So......
We boarded our bus from Fortaleza with 15 or so others , some locals some Brazilians from down south and a French couple, the journey was about 4hours and itself was quite uneventful apart from Dani sprawled out on the backseats with her sleeping bag out in 38 degree heat!We soon stopped in quite a remote place besides a little café and several 4x4s and where told that the buses were not alowed into Jericoacoara due to it being a nature reserve so we had to board the 4x4 and make the rest of the journey that way.
The paved road soon gave way to a sand road with dunes climbing either side of us, this road disappeared and we were now traveling across the dunes themselves driving through lagoons to reach the next dune, probably the most amazing journey ever!!!How the 4x4s actually made it in one piece I have no Idea.
We eventually made it to Jericoacoara and it was worth every penny, there were no roads just sand and rows of brightly painted surf shacks, restaurants, bars and Posadas, and were dropped of at our hotel. The hotel equipped with large swimming pool, nice clean rooms, hammocks and a mini bar full of skoll (well not by the end of the trip it wasn't) was more than what we had hoped for and only a short walk to the beach, 50 meters to be precise.
After unpacking and helping ourselves to a bottle of skoll out of the mini bar we headed to the beach, pristine beach, beautiful sea surrounded by bohemian bars and sand dunes we took a short walk and then decided to head back and find some grub. After dinner and a few more beers we got changed and went on a bar crawl albeit only one bar before we were so tired we sneaked back to the room and passed out!! (Light weights I know).
The next morning we awoke really early had breakfast and went straight to the beach and began a mammoth walk to see some rocks carved out by the sea to form an archway, the trek took us over rocks, under rocks in the sea chest deep, past a dead turtle and eventually to the rock. With the pictures taken and our backs burnt we turned around and done it all again to get back however on the way back we decided to go for a swim so we ditched the rucksack and jumped in the sea Dani´s second step however led her to scream and shout and start flapping and running back to the sand screaming louder than I had ever heard! (With the panic I saw in her eyes I quickly followed!!) When I caught up with her I discovered she had in fact stood on some sort of fish or something that had stung her (Yes guys just like Newquay!!).
After taking Dani to the bar and drowning her foot in hot water and vinegar we declared enough of the beach and went back to the hotel and sunbathed by the pool. However for those of you that know me you no I can not sit still for two minutes and before I new it we were heading back to the beach to hire out a windsurf for an hour. This unfortunately didn't go to well, I was ditched with a massive board with 2 fixed daggers and after 5 seconds I was being blown out to sea, 10 minutes later I was blown off and fell straight through the sail!! Yes straight through the sail!! I now had two options 1. Sit on my board and wave like mad to be picked up by the rescue team and pay a fortune plus pay for the sail or 2. Try and make my way back to shore with a ripped sail and skip the humiliation of the rescue boat…….. No 2. It was, however I didnt hit shore until about a mile and a half away and when I say hit, I mean hit!!! The shore where I made it to be pretty much a vertical sand dune and as I hit it I was thrown over the front of the board and face first into the dune!!!!! (Bungle I know!)
Well with a sore head and a very light wallet due to the sail we spent the rest of the day and evening drinking the most amazing cocktails and chilling in probably … no definitely the most amazing surfer chilled out place in the world!!!
The next morning we packed our bags and boarded the 4x4 heading back via "paradise lagoon" and I think it's fair to say everybody in the motor was shocked upon arrival, there was this turquoise blue lagoon with white beach, hammocks swinging in the water bed chairs and 38 degree heat!! W e spent the day chilling out, diving of the floating platform, drinking skoll on the tables and chairs in the water and just generally being as chilled out as a bunch of stoner hippies in the 60´s, life was perfect and if I had to choose somewhere to live it would be Jericoacoara!!
We headed back to Fortaleza and had one more night before we flew to Belem, we ended up staying in the new part of Fortaleza where it was meant to be "happening" erm yeah…. Not much happening there to be honest, it was deserted and I think it was such a new part of Fortaleza that no one has heard of it yet!!!
The next morning we yet again packed our bags and jumped in a taxi for the airport, yet another leg of our trip done!!!
Next stop Belem and the Amazon!!
