Welcome to our travel blog site, perhaps i should start with how we got here? (nope not the birds and the bees!) but how we got to the point of boarding a flight to Brazil! Read on, I hope you enjoy our adventure xxx

Let me set the scene....

So.... we had a wedding date all booked, we owned our own little house, we had a beautiful dog, were both in good jobs and had a nice little car all at the tender age of 27. What more could you want for? ..........aside from a bigger TV Dean tells me!

On the surface its all a pretty picture, however, there has been (since my first around the world trip in 2005) a little bug in my life that I just cant shift. Every traveller contracts it when they return to their homeland. Unfortunately there is no expensive vaccine for this one, some live with it contently - others, namely me, go through life trying to suppress its horrendous side effects. So when i noticed a few years back the tell tell traits in Dean, (drinking a box of wine and blowing up the inner casing for a pillow, the turning of underwear before it goes in the wash, wearing flip flops in the snow, head in the lonely planet like it was a bible, the list goes on!) i started to worry that id passed on this terrible disease to my beloved and felt the guilt!

We talked for hours about travelling, where we would go, what we would do and who we would meet but somehow we got caught up in the race of life, we took on the responsibilities of being adults! We naturally progressed to the next 'done thing' in society and were really happy but something was always niggling. We knew we had to make a bold decision, we hadn't the responsibility of children yet but it still seemed like too huge a feat to u turn our lives around and head for the unknown, however day by day it was increasingly obvious that life was passing us by.

2011 started with some devastating news, a dark cloud settled over our small town on January 1st when three local lads, Frankie, Jamie and George were killed age 17 in a road accident, these lads were friends of my sister and everyone who came into their lives. It rocked the community, those who knew them and those who didn't. Whilst struggling to come to terms with the boys death and trying to help rebuild my sisters broken heart we both realised that live was all too short.

In dedication to those lads we made the biggest and bravest decision of our lives so far, we rented our house out, sold the car, quit our jobs, cancelled the wedding and went and bought 2 backpacks and a plane ticket. It took something so sad and upsetting to give us the kick up the bum we needed so...
