The Forbiden City is along side Tienamin Square so a short (or not) walk there. Had to wait while Crystal (guide) went to get tickets. It is hard to comprehend how large this place is, the size of a large NZ town atleast.
Layer on layer of ancient stone courtyards and buildings. Wonderful carved stone staircases and beautiful ceramic decorations, hard to believe they are 2500 years old, still vivid colours. Huge place, no atmosphere.
Ancient Chinese very fond of sympolisum. Gates are studded with 9 rows of 9 guilded knops , supposed to bring good luck to who ever goes through.
