Hey all,
For a change today I wanted to write something about how it feels to be travelling for a fair amount of time. As you can probably tell from all my blog posts, I've been really enjoying travelling. You do some really awesome stuff, meet loads of really cool people with similar interests, see/do some really crazy stuff and have the freedom to do whatever you want. However anyone who says that its all perfect all the time and they loved every single minute of it is possibly exagerating a bit, what I mean is not that I ever am unhappy that I'm travelling, its just you're doing it every day for so long and are really busy that somedays it's just not what you feel like doing. When you're travelling you move around, relocate and familiarise yourself with a new area a lot, still have things that pile up to sort out or plan and research, spend hours in busy hostels or sitting on transport with lots of new people and sometimes eat very functionally (i.e. getting into a routine of eating fairly similar meals just because of what you can keep with you or because you feel you need to have some fruit/veg/protein or whatever) and are generally always busy. All of this means that while you are having a great time most of the time, you can get very tired and start to not appreciate some of the stuff you are doing and the freedom you have as much as you feel you should. Sometimes you just need to have a break, spend a few days in one place but where you don't do loads of stuff each day, just spend the time to chill out, rest and do some of the things that you can do at home so feel like you shouldn't do so much when you're away with so many other opportunities like reading, watching a film, playing a video game or just having some time to yourself. Sometimes just a day to sort out all the stuff building up to do helps too.
I felt a bit like that when I got in the other day, I decided I didn't really like the hostel I was in or the area and was just generally in a strange mood, though this could have been down to the 2hrs sleep i got before I had to leave for my plane the night before. I spent the day chilling, got 11 hrs sleep :) and then the next day was in a completely different mood, bumped into a group of girls I knew from when I was in NZ, found some really nice gardens near by and some really cool features in my hostel and was just had a completely different mind set for the day.
It's hard to explain and I know that its not an upbeat blog post as my normal one, though I think its still a positive one and I think its important to remember how occasionaly you just get a bit tired of it all and need a little bit of a break and how you then feel refreshed and excited a new for what you have lined up.
Anyway thats my rant done, hopefully it didn't bore you all, I just wanted to record it for my own records as much as anything.
See you all later
Dan
