Dan and Claire go worldwide
Ao Nang is just along the coast from Railay, so we stopped here briefly before heading over to the Phi Phi islands. The weather still wasnt good, and after a night of torrential rain, we decided to risk it and go off on a diving trip the next day to Phi Phi Leh!
Phi Phi Leh is one of the two Phi Phi islands, the one that is totally uninhabited. It has some world class dive sites around it, so we couldnt resist a look. Having loved our diving so far, we were really excited. True to form however, the weather was horrible, and we endured a two hour boat trip to get to the island through the storms!! Needless to say, seasickness was the order of the day! After arriving, ther weather soon perked up and we did two dives...........and saw two sharks!! The visibility wasnt as good as we had been used to because of the weather, but we still saw loads of cool things, and it was well worth it especially for the experience.
The next day we headed on a kayaking tour, becoming one of our favoured means of transport!! We headed into the beautiful mangrove forests, through the canyon and along little waterways in search of monkeys! The weather was great, but because of previous weather, the waterway to the cave where the monkeys hang out was too shallow to pass through, so we reluctantly headed back :( . Our Thai guide however, never wanting to disappoint, extended our trip as he could see I was so disappointed, and we went in another direction in search of them, and true to form there sitting on the river bank was a huge troop of monkeys, about 20 of them!! Yay! Before we could even stop the kayak they had all leaped in the river and were quickly swimming our way, before leaping in our kayak with our guide furiously throwing fruit in our direction!! They came and sat with us in the boat munching on the fruit, and it was so fantastic!! It is their breeding season at the moment too, so there was lots of little baby monkeys hanging of their mothers bellies..aahhh! Was slighlty concerned about our camera though, as they have become very clever and they pinch your belongings and only give them back in return for fruit!! So I held on to my camera for dear life whilst snapping some good shots!
All in all, a fab time was had.
