Dan and Claire go worldwide
Our last stop on this side of Thailand was the much loved Phi Phi Don island, which is only about 6km from its sister island where we went diving. Phi Phi Don was the most popular resort along the coast before it was hit by the Tsunami, and sadly some of the damage is still clear to see. Although a tremendous amount of rebuilding has happened and is still happening, it was quite badly hit and will take a while to get properly back on its feet.
We stayed here for just two nights, and our main activity was a beautiful boat trip around both Phi Phi islands at all the deserted and uninhabited beaches. Our first stop off was at Maya Bay, for all you movie fanatics, where The Beach was filmed!! It was beautiful, but not as much as you would imagine actually..it definetly looks better on the film, as do most things!! We then stopped at another beautiful deserted beach for some snorkelling, before heading to a beach inhabited by a troop of monkeys!! We snorkelled up to the beach where they live to visit them. after this we headed to bamboo island, probably the most beautiful stop off of the day. It was a totally deserted island, with pure white sands and clear turquoise water with dolphins swimming around it, it was amazing. Before we got off, the dolphins were circling our boat, and when we got off to snorkel they were still swimming around, but we couldnt get close enough to swim with them!!
Thankfully, for once, the weather was beautiful so we had a great time. In the evening we had a look around the Tsunami memorial garden on the beach side, which was really sad.
The next day we left, heading back to one of our favourite islands on the other coast of Thailand, Koh Phagnan, in search of some guaranteed good weather!! The rain was becoming quite depressing and we couldnt make any solid plans because it was so on and off. So off we went to do our last sunbathing session, before we head off to the Chang Mai and into the jungle.........
