Day 9 - Khorixas - Outjo (340 KM):
Today we started off with a trip to the Petrified Forest, which was an area full of these stone trees, which were over 260 million years old..
However the real highlight of today was a visit to the Himba tribes - where there is still around 120.000 people belonging to this tribe living in Namibia. Although it was a bit fabricated for the tourism - it was still very interesting. The viilage has a population of 10 Men, 35 Women (tough life for the men) and 50 children , may of them orphans, since many kids have lost their parents to AIDS and general lack of good medical care.
Because no water is allowed for washing, the women used red ochre instead, which left a red stain on their bodies, which came off easily …. A dead giveaway if you had been playing "away from home",
We had an open fire and barbeque for dinner, which was great and Heinrich excelled himself with at least 5 portions.
Another night finishing at the bar with a round of springboks with Caroline, Marco and Klaus but also joined by Derk and Babbette who had recently joined the trip …… Slowly we are building a following.
When we put the shot "back in one" Annette raised hers in the air, it slipped out of her hand, smashed on the floor to a huge cheer ….. Nostrovia!
