Day 8 - Swakopmund - Khorixas (320 KM):
Into our second week and we now have 4 more people in the truck and a long day's driving in front of us. We moved onto the Skeleton coast and stopped to look at one of the many shipwrecks to be found (apparently the reason for it's name)
Our first proper stop was when we arrived at Spitzkoppe, the highest point in Namibia at 1728 metres and with the nickname of Namibia's Matterhorn, because it has a similar shape to the real Matterhorn in Switzerland. Had 1 ½ hour walk with a local guide here, where he explained about the area the people living here and also showed us some bushman paintings.
Returned to the truck for lunch and afterwards climbed aboard to continue our trek and the day was getting hotter..
Got to our cottages at a place called Igowati in Khorixas late afternoon and it was probably the least attractive , the rooms were large but everything was quite grubby and it was the first time we neither had a fan nor air-conditioning and it was really hot.
Not our best day but finished in the bar with Caroline and Marco, who we have become friendly with and Caroline introduced us to a new shot "the Springbok" made with Amarula and Peppermint - It might become the "shot of Choice
