We slept through the alarm this morning so missed breakfast and our planned early lineup at the archaeology museum. As there was now no rush we took our time and grabbed some kebabs before heading to the Blue Mosque. The mosque was very impressive from the outside, a very imposing structure. We lined up and things moved pretty quickly. Once our shoes were off and Jac had shawled up we entered. The place was not as impressive as the outside and nothing close to the amazing churches we have seen. It was just big, sparse and lacked the wow factor compared to other places we have seen. They had hundreds of wires hanging down from the roof to support the lights which really did nothing to enhance the beauty.
From there it was back home to relax for a few hours. We were heading out at night to catch up with friends we had met in Amsterdam, Liz & Emily. We navigated the trams to Taksim Square and even had a seat. A little early so we grabbed a crappy Maccas coffee before heading to the meeting point. We all arrived much the same time but managed to miss each other for half an hour. Eventually we met and it was great to see familiar faces and speak real English.
The girls took us to a traditional Turkish restaurant, complete with sitting on the floor and removal of shoes. We followed their lead and ordered Iskender which turned out to be just about the best feed we have had here. The setting added to the feed but the best part was the company. When traveling you just can't beat hanging out with other like minded people who you can relax and chat and joke with.
From there it was on to a bar for a few drinks. We kept it to just a few although the beers were huge. Emily had to head off early but Liz stayed and we talked and people watched for a few hours before calling it a night. It was 11ish but there were still people everywhere. Nothing like Melbourne late on a Thursday night. We navigated our way home safely and straight to bed as we are planning an early start in the morning. Thanks for a great night girls, it was a blast catching up again.
