Lets take this gig global!!
Sawidee krup to y'all.
Well, its been a while since I said hi, mainly due to the fact that I've been having the best damn 10 days of my life!! Stuck out on complete remote beaches in the middle of nowhere doing well.....pretty much b***** all for the past week or so!! Bliss!
Ha ha, oh its been amazing. Theres so much to write but I'll try and keep it brief.......
I had an epic birthday on Phi Phi which was the usual island party with untold Chang beers and copious amounts of Samsong (Thai whiskey/rum). It was a heavy one for all involved and we all had a few bruises the next day after certain "activities" from the night before! Not gonna name any names....but all good fun tho. We left Phi phi a couple of days later and headed to Koh Lanta.
We were staying at the Last Beach resort which as the name suggests was bloody miles from anywhere and a good 45 mins in the back of a pick up truck down dusty off-road tracks to get there!! It felt more like we should have been Basra with tea towels on our heads waving guns and shouting, everytime we had to get a lift somewhere!! The beach was beautiful tho and with only two resorts on it, it was empty most days, there was also some good surf too which was sweet! The only downside was that the weather wasn't all that great with a massive storm on the first night and rain the second but after that it cleared up and its been immense every day since. (luckily)
So didn't really get up to much there except chill, sunbath (when it peeped its head out!), drink Samsong and eat and eat and eat!! Oh this traveling life is tough!! Haha.
The other good (or bad) thing about Lanta was that we were staying in National Park territory which basically means that you are living in a bamboo hut in a blimin zoo! The amount of wildlife is crazy and everywhere. In one night we had frogs, geckos, lizards, mice, rats, ants, other crazy bugs, and cockroaches all pop in to say hello!!
Much to Steves delight! haha....
After tearing ourselves away from Paradise in Lanta the next stop was Koh Lipeh. Two weeks ago I had never even heard of this place and now its my favourite place in the world! It's a tiny island right down the southern peninsula of Thailand just 5km from Malaysia and fairly unheard of by the majority of travellers or well out the way for most anyway! It was a mission to get there as we had to travel about 350km in a day by truck, motorbike, minibus, taxi, big boat and speed boat!! Not bad for a days work! It was well worth it tho and the island was just stunning and everything you picture when you think of south Thailand.
We also met up with the sweedish girls from Bangkok too and a Canadian girl from the bus so with me, steve and Paul there was a good little crew going on! The weather has been the best yet so just spent all day everyday on the beach, chilling, playing disk, snorkeling, swimming and its been awesome! Oh and I finally found Nemo aswell!! Another 'must do' box ticked!
Out of all the places I've been to so far it is without doubt the one I'm truly gutted to leave! I could've spent weeks, months, even years there!! And it was an emotional last supper last night as we had to say cheerio to the sweedes and Kim (Canadian girl) as they are heading down to Malaysia.
But our time in Asia is slowly coming to an end so we are hitting the east coast for a few days before we fly out of Bangkok. First stop is Koh Phang Ngan and then maybe Koh Tao if we have time, just making sure that we avoid Samui like the plague after all the nasty stories we've heard about that place!!
Anyways I have many more kilometers to travel and more emails to write so I better split.
Take it easy and I'll update again soon I'm sure.
Laters,
(a well tanned!) Dan
PS: Im thinking of you everyday Nan, so get better soon!!
