Lets take this gig global!!
Hey, its me again.
So as I said I have been in SF for a few days now and its been erm.....interesting! After dropping the car off we got the train into downtown and then had to walk about 8 blocks in the roasting heat into what turns out to be one of the worst areas of SF!! Bloody great! Yep, we are staying in the rough Tenderloin district on the worst street possible! It is literally a ghetto round here. Theres an unbelievable 10,000+ homeless people in SF and most of them seem to congregate along our street! The pavements are lined with bodies and reak of booze and piss and just to give you an idea, you cant walk 10 yards without some crazy drunk waffling something to you and you having no idea what the hell he is saying and on the first morning we left the hostel to see a guy smoking crack right there in front of us!! Its a proper head down and stomp FAST job everytime we go out!!
Apart from that, the hostel itself is ok and Ive enjoyed the rest of SF. I wasted the first day trying to sort out my travel insurance which was a no go but more on that later. Had a stonker on wednesday when we hired bikes and cycled all around the Embarcadero and onto and across the Golden Gate Bridge. At 2 miles long it really is as impressive as you imagine it to be. Although unlike the Sydney Harbour bridge the sides are NOT fenced off so with my fear of heights it was a pretty sketchy crossing. When the wind picks up I thought I was gonna get blowen right off the edge!!! Its kinda crazy that there is no proper barrier and they have to have emergency phones dotted along for potential suiciders to use!! Apparently, on average someone jumps once every two weeks which is a crazy stat for you!!
Anyways, once on the other side we had to mission it up a steep 3 mile climb to the lighthouse for some epic views then floated all the way back down and onto the real nice little town of Sausolito. Its kind of a sea-side town American stylee! But nice nonetheless. Completely shattered we headed off for ther almighty ride back where we stopped off for a well deserved pint! We must have riden at least 15 miles that day but it was brilliant and defo a good way to burn off all the fast food we've been chuffing on.
Yesterday I did a bit of window shopping then in the arvo we walked to North beach and the touristy Fishermans Wharf which is basically Blackpool on steroids!! The main reason for coming here was for the Alcatraz tour we did last night. Yep, we were off to "the Rock". It was sweet to see it all but again was a bit of a let down as its made to look as if it was all roses whilst staying there when it clealry wasnt the case if you read the prisoners accounts of events!
We hit the town after as it was Rob and Claires last night away and finally managed to find a decent bar so got pretty seshed in the end!! So feeling a little ropey today as we waved off Rob and Claire and now that is me right upto date at last! I am back downtown rinsing the free internet and heading to the Golden Gate Park this arvo to chill out and take it easy.
Off to NY tomo but I'll explain more later.
Sorry about the lack of banter but kinda rushed for time. Will be seeing you all soon
