We stated the day early, needing to pack the last of our gear and the tent. Happily it went down nearly as easily as it went up, so the day started well. We hit the road at about 7:30, heading east out of the Canyon. We stopped at a few more points for a final view of the Canyon. We are still amazed at how enormous and beautiful it is.
We headed through very hot, dry areas of Arizona and despite the often barren landscape, it was still very beautiful.
Once we hit Colorado, the climate and landscape changed very quickly. It cooled right down, and clouds started to form overhead. The land was greener and there were more trees.
We started to see evidence of snow capped mountains in the distance. Little did we know that we would be driving up into those very mountains before too long. The view from up in those mountains was truly awesome.
We stopped at South Fork and found somewhere to stay. As nice as camping was, it's really nice to have a nice big bed, and a solid room to sleep in!
