We left Gunnison in the morning for Denver. There was yet more amazing scenery to drive through as we continued through the Rocky Mountains. We arrived in Denver at about lunch time so we stopped before we hit the city itself to find some accommodation and get our bearings.
We found a hotel a little outside the city and got ourselves settled, then we started looking for something to do for the afternoon, We drove into downtown Denver to a place known to locals as LoDo - or lower downtown. This is an area with some really cool old buildings that have been restored and renovated and now house trendy shops, galleries, bars and restaurants. We took a walk through the area and stopped for a drink at a microbrewery. There was a baseball game being played at the nearby Coors Stadium so there were plenty of people out. We had dinner at a Mongolian Barbeque which was really nice and a lot of fun. I was just pleased to be eating food that was not Mexican or burgers, which seems to be the most common restaurant food around this part of the US! Some of the other diners must have been on their way to prom, they were all dressed in three piece suits and very fancy dresses, including a few who looked like they stepped off the set of Gone with the Wind!
Denver is a cool city, surrounded by some amazing wilderness. Tomorrow we will spend the morning here before heading to Mount Rushmore.
