Monday 19th May - Pisa
We drove today from Venice to Pisa and are staying in a seaside holiday hotel which is about 15 kms from Pisa. As it's not holiday season here it is very quiet but lovely. At the moment we are in Pisa checking out train times to Florence tomorrow and checking flights and train options for Helen and Eric to go to Rome on Friday.
Lynda is doing all the driving and Helen is navigating with the Tom TOM. We had two near misses on the drive here today - one with a truck and one with a car - plus we went through the wrong toll gate and was unable to take a toll ticket. The sign said a photo was taken of our number plate. When we eventually got to the Pisa exit about 5 hours later, we parked the car and put on the hazards lights then ran across several lanes of toll gates to tell out story to the traffic officer. We think he was quite shocked to see two maidens running towards him dodging trucks. Fortunately he spoke a little English and was able to tell us which booth to go through to pay the toll. We pulled into one booth but there was no operator so we quickly put the hazardous lights on and backed out and into the next one. Fortunatley the toll gate wasn't busy. It cost us 19.80 euro about $35 and we have the receipt so hopefully we will not be stopped at the border for now paying our toll charge.
