Made the short trip from Charlotte to Greenville in an hour or so - stopped at the big BMW car plant just past Spartanburg to see if we could do a tour and once again were disappointed to find the place closed for the summer holiday until next week! It is only a 30 minute drive back there so we might go that way on Monday morning on our way to the Smoky Mountains.
We went straight to the Carolina First Centre to register for the Wing-Ding and found a car park rapidly filling with Goldwings of all colours and models.
Lots of trikes as well. Once the locals discovered we had come all the way from Oz to their show we were treated like royalty and made to feel so welcome. Did the registering thing and then drove into the city for a look.
What a lovely place Greenville is - over 60,000 population and the city centre is a credit to the locals with clean, tidy tree lined streets and many facilites. We had some lunch and walked down to the Reedy River which runs through the city - not flowing too fast at present because the area is going through a semi drought with below average rainfall for the past couple of years.
Took some photos and then went back to our hotel to find our rooms weren't quite ready so we drove a short distance to the Haywood Mall and had a look around. The mall is quite unusal from what we have seen because most of the shopping centres are open fronted and have a line of shops and no central mall. This one was pretty big and had all sorts of shops.
Once we got our rooms we unpacked a bit (here for 4 nights) and settled in.
