Kingston and Gananoque were returned to for the next leg of the epic journey, where we were promptly put back to work to earn our keep as well as remuneration for future survival. Many tasks were set before us, from painting to cutting grass, but the biggest was the digging out and setting the gravel base for the floating decking around Alec & Daria's pool. Thankfully, with an Environmental Engineer and me on the task, it was completed to the apparent satisfaction of the owner ready for the deck boards...whenever they arrive eh?
However, our time was not just spent working in the tough conditions on the banks of the St Lawrence River in the glorious sunshine, we also had plenty of good and fun times. You see, working next to a warm, clean pool has its perks. Like being able to use it as and when you pleased, to the extent that Quince and I attempted to back-flip many times off the diving board. Don't try it at home kids - we didn't! We did it at someone else's! Anyway, moving on, and particularly sticking out in the memory, was the trip down the St Lawrence river to Alexandria bay, where Alec bravely fought back his better judgement to allow Quince and I to take the helm. With a fine tour of many rich and famous houses, secret waterways and an all round view of Boldt Castle, it had to be said that it was definitely a huge amount better than paying the Thousand Island Ferry people to do it.
Our time culminated in a weekend away at Miekle and Margaret's remote cottage, on a small island in the middle of Crowe Lake. We assisted in the opening of the cottage for the summer, and learnt that it isn't quite as straight forward as one might have imagined it would be. Nonetheless, we enjoyed dining by candle-light, and I managed to get a record kill count of 70 dead mosquito's in a day...for some reason i am more attractive to them than Quince. So nothing out of the ordinary there then! (And hear the collective 'Ooooh' as everyone wonders whether i'm joking or not.) Water-sports were enjoyed by the both of us, including water-skiing, cliff jumping, tubing and riding on the Sea-doo. A lot of fun indeed!
Unfortunately, our time had to come to a close, so we said our goodbyes and made our way to our next stop - Banff.
