Melbourne is a huge stretched out city. The harbour and city centre has a lot of character. The main station building and the trams reminded me a bit of Hannover in Germany. It is green everywhere with many trees and bungalow type of houses. You hardly see any blocks of flats. The roads are wide and with many traffic and road signs so that it is easy to drive here. We stayed one night with Frederick Prins in Brookfield. He drove with us in our camper to the city centre. It was hard to find a parking place. We looked around. Take some photos and bought some souvenirs.
At the moment we are staying with Sarath and Marie Jayasinghe. Sarath left Sri Lanka together with my Sarath in 1971.
Yesterday I went for a didgeridoo lesson in Belgrave. Stax showed me how to make a sound on the instrument but I couldn't get it right! So he told me to first go and practice and to come back on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. I tried very hard and now I can make the drone sound...
On Friday Marie took us to a huge shopping centre, showed us what Endeavour Hills, the area in which they live, looks like and took us to an Asian shop. We bought some Sri Lankan rolls and Sri Lankan mango chutney. We spend the evening at home, talking and watching TV.
On Saturday morning I went for my didgeridoo lesson. Stax showed me some techniques and now I feel really inspired to master playing the instrument. We drove all the way(about an hour and a half) to the other side of Melbourne to have lunch with Adrian, Sarath's friend and from there back to the South to visit the with of a teacher of Sarath who has recently past away. She served us with tea and lovely fruit cake. The evening we went to a restaurant with Maria and Sarath. Sarath and I enjoyed a hopper dinner. We had a great time with Marie and Sarath. They are two lovely people and made us feel so welcome at their home.
They even encouraged and endured me trying to play my didgeridoo!
