Steve's Mini Adventure!
Once again a long but amazing journey through the mountains, stopping at Lake Wanaka on the way before arriving in Fox. Booked myself on a glacier walk for the next day. Fox Glacier and Franz Josef glaciers both run off the mountains and onto the west coastline and both are spectacular. The next day, all geared up with crampons and ice picks we headed off too the Glacier. Woke up feeling ropey and think it was prob the wrong day to be trecking acroos ice all day as its made me VERY ill now! Still, had a great day, surreal walking on tonnes and tonnes of ice, have to pinch yourself sometimes! Travelled to Hokitika the next day, feeling awful i slept when i got there, managed to drag myself out for a while to see the fantastic beach, quaint little town and glow worm caves after dark. Hiked over to Greymouth to catch the Tranzalpine train (one of the only trains in NZ, and apparantley one of the best in the world) back to Christchurch. The journey was certainly something spectacular, in a nutshell NZ and especially the South island in winter is unbeatable, can't imagine ever seeing anything so amazing. Very random, waiting on the platform and i see Tim/Supler's brother Jamie waiting there! So we had a good catch up on the train, who'd have thought two Wymondham reprebates together.....SMALL WORLD! Got across to the airport as was meeting Matt, Angela and some friends for a few days snowboarding just outside Christchurch.
