My first tourist stop for this Florida trip is historic St. Augustine. The "ancient city" is a beautiful maze of cobblestone streets lined with quaint and charming shops and eateries. I enjoyed samples from the fudge shop as I watched the horse-drawn carriage tours.
My favorite aspect of this city (besides the beautiful Bridge of Lions), is the Castillo de San Marcos.
"A monument not only of stone and mortar but of human determination and endurance, the Castillo de San Marcos symbolizes the clash between cultures which ultimately resulted in our uniquely unified nation. Still resonant with the struggles of an earlier time, these original walls provide tangible evidence of America's grim but remarkable history."
Walking along the courtyard, peeping into the many rooms that house artifacts and relics of the times. Standing on top of the fort walls, fingers in ears, as the reenactors go through the production of firing one of the original cannons.
This is a beautiful city, with such a rich history. It's definitely one of a kind. The beaches are pristine as well.
I drove over to the Anastasia State Park. The water and beach were beautiful, despite the chill in the wind. It's a lovely park here, with areas to walk and picnic, with a view of the lighthouse in the background.
