Neil's journey
So, ventured into some backpackers bar last night on Khao San Road (the equivalent of Watford on a Saturday night). Pretty full on, felt a bit of a d*** on my own so managed to force myself to speak to some other people - I think that holidaying brits abroad thing makes it a bit easier, its funny though once you've talked about your trip (and theirs) and "do you know the walkabout in Shepherds Bush" with the Australians thats it, time to leave, nice crowd though.
Frustrating day today, had been warned about taking dodgy transport to Cambodia so tried two reputable agents (well according to the rough guide anyway) - got horribly lost (no street numbers, no road signs) and they only did flights...Anyway, went to agency next to where I'm staying and managed to book transport for the whole way for 200 baht, (just under three pounds), I said to the man that seemed really cheap considering the distance - he just smiled probably thinking "you haven't seen the vehicle you're travelling in yet...."
So there you go, off to Cambodia Thursday morning to see temples at Angkor - even booked a guest house for when I get there using my fluent cambodian.
Little tip - when in a Chinatown bar, the "harrow taxi driver" joke goes down well
