The "Normanville reunion day".
Left Bampton at 6.15am and drove to Peterborough to catch a 9.45am train to Edinburgh in Scotland. Arrived at 1.30pm and checked into the Balmoral Hotel next to the station then headed out for the hop on off bus to get a snapshot view of he city and then a wander down the a Royal Mile. Last time we came here in 1987 we found it dull and dismal but to be fair it was a quick visit during a 3 month motor home holiday. This time we were fascinated by the city in all respects and wish we had more time
However the main purpose of the visit was to catch up with Kylie Murphy who had her first job with us at the Normanville beach cafe when she was 14/15. She is now a well respected chef at the Michelin starred restaurant Number One in the Balmoral Hotel. We spent 7 hours with her over drinks and then a special dinner put on at her restaurant by the head chef. So much fun reminiscing and so good to see how happy she is in her personal and professional life and that she still loves her cooking and has the fire in the belly to be the best chef she can possibly be
We also caught up over drinks with Danielle who worked for us at Normanville while backpacking around Australia. She and her daughter Imogen live 2 hours out of Edinburgh by train and she came in after work to have a drink with us for an hour or so - so good to catch up
So the "reunion" ended about midnight when we went to bed and Kylie went out to party (she has tomorrow off as well)
Tomorrow train back to England so it has been a very short trip but so worthwhile and we loved it all
